Rest Area

A utilitarian roadside stop designed for passing travelers, its peeling linoleum floors sticky underfoot and the air thick with the stale odor of fast food grease and antiseptic cleaner. The walls bear the ghosts of decades of graffiti—initials, phone numbers, and hurried political slogans in cracked blue and red marker.
