It serves as both a physical obstacle and a site of judgment, where rope bridges hang suspended over vertiginous drops or glowing hazards pierce the gloom. Early in its history, it trapped travellers like Susan Foreman and Sabetha in suffocating peril, their survival hinging on flickering lanterns and wavering trust across makeshift spans. Later, the Chasm became a formal place of execution under Optera rule, where captives like Ian and Vrestin faced binding judgment beneath the watch of leaders such as Nemini and Hetra, the very name evoking inevitable finality amid the alien depths.
