Riverbank at Twilight

The riverbank stretches narrow under a fading twilight sky, its muddy shore slick with the retreat of the day’s last light. A lone fisherman kneels by the water’s edge, his line barely disturbed by the slow current. The air carries the damp scent of wet earth and decaying reeds, broken only by the occasional rustle of reeds along the bank. Deep shadows pool beneath overhanging willows whose branches drag the water’s surface, creating mirrored ripples that break the last violet hues of dusk. The fisherman’s quiet vigil ends when the sphere descends without sound, its glow sharpening the contrast between flickering golden water and the encroaching blue-black gloom. After the theft, the man collapses forward into the shallows, his body seemingly intact yet already emptied of thought, the water accepting him without resistance.
