The TARDIS materializes in a chronal dead zone where time and space dissolve at the edges. The ship’s exterior lights carve weak cones of illumination through a gray, featureless mist that swallows all sound except the TARDIS’s strained whine and the distant, rhythmic toll of a massive bell suspended in nowhere. The ground beneath them yields to spongy, unfamiliar soil that clings to boots like damp wool, resisting every step as if gravity itself had grown hesitant. Beyond the ship’s failing force field, the Dark Tower rises—a jagged obsidian spire fracturing the horizon, its surface absorbing light until it resembles a hole punched in reality. The air carries no scent of earth or ozone, only a faint, electric sharpness that makes the crew’s teeth ache and sets their skin prickling with unseen charge. Shadows cast by the Tower do not follow the TARDIS’s failing lights but stretch long and unnaturally still, as though time itself hesitates before entering that domain of absolute stillness.
