Lijnbaansgracht

A narrow Amsterdam canal-side lane bathed in the murky glow of streetlamps reflecting off still water. The cobbled path beside the canal is damp from a recent drizzle, the air heavy with the scent of wet stone and the faint tang of diesel from passing trams. Brick facades line the water’s edge, their gable roofs casting sharp shadows over patches of worn cobblestones where the stone has been worn smooth by centuries of footsteps. A single flickering lamppost throws long, wavering shadows against the canal wall, its light barely piercing the late evening gloom. The water below remains eerily motionless, disturbed only by the occasional ripple of a rat darting between the moored boats. The lane is silent save for the distant hum of traffic and the hollow echo of their footsteps closing in on the police station’s rear alley.
