Upper Reaches of the Amazon

The upper Amazon unfolds as a labyrinth of waterways choked with floating islands of vegetation, where the river’s chocolate-brown waters press against dense mangrove roots and the air hangs thick with the scent of damp earth and rotting vegetation.
