Threshold Stair to Melkur's Sanctum

A narrow stone stairway leading upward to the sealed brass doors of Melkur’s sanctum, carved directly into the sanctum’s outer edifice. The passage is lit by flickering oil sconces whose light dims against the encroaching darkness of the vault’s interior. Rough-cut steps descend just enough to mark the boundary between the open air outside and the sanctum’s inward-turning sanctity. The air grows thick with the scent of age, dust, and something older—corruption woven into the stone itself. The stair’s finish is worn smooth in patches where cautious feet have lingered, not quite entering, not fully refusing. Here, the abdomen of the sacred space waits, pulsating with unseen malice, while outside, the sky remains indifferent above.
