Kitchen Wall

The kitchen wall stands against the far end of the room, its whitewashed plaster cracked and grimy from years of use. Wooden shelves jut outward from its surface, sagging under the weight of copper pans and chipped crockery that jangle with every tremor. The floorboards beneath it slope slightly, where centuries of foot traffic have worn the planks uneven. Faded wallpaper peels near a rust-streaked gas pipe running vertically beside a cold water tap, its valve knob chipped from hasty handling. The wall faces the kitchen’s central table, where three bodies dart to obey orders—the only clear space in a room collapsing into chaos. Dust motes spiral in the dim light filtering through a grimy window high above, and the acrid tang of gas already hisses from the broken pipe.
