Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors (Peru)

A 2000-year-old temple shrouded in thick vegetation, revealed in the Peruvian high jungle beyond a dense stand of trees. Its sudden emergence terrifies the Yagua porters, who abandon supplies and flee in superstition-fueled panic, perceiving it as the source of a deadly curse. The temple serves as the expedition's destination, where ancient traps and supernatural threats await amid oppressive mist and isolation. The temple's entrance is a round, open black void shaped like a gaping maw of stone and shadow, surrounded by elaborate friezes and tangled vegetation. Its interior features claustrophobic, labyrinthine inclined passageways with lethal booby traps (collapsing floors, impaling spikes, poison darts, and a massive boulder chase), giant tarantulas, and bottomless pits. The sanctuary includes a golden idol pedestal, and the temple's traps are meticulously described, including torchlit passages and swarming tarantulas.
