Doctor guides Jo through maggot tunnel

Used as a punt-like vessel, the rusted coal wagon is propelled manually along the narrow cavern rails, its warped planks bearing the weight of two human travelers and their sparse gear. The Doctor wedges a pole beneath the undercarriage to shove them forward through the submerged rails while Jo steadies their course, the wagon’s creaks and groans a constant counterpoint to their struggle.

Before: Derailed at an angle on the West Seam Roadway, its wheels embedded in damp coal dust and the floor slick with oily maggot trails.

After: Restored to the rails and mechanically repositioned, its damaged frame now scarred with deeper grooves from scraping the tunnel walls during passage.
