Morphoton Mind-Control Discs (Mesmerant Discs)

Small disc-shaped devices placed on the foreheads of sleeping individuals by Sabetha in the Morphoton quarters. These discs (referred to as both 'Morphoton Mind-Control Discs' and 'Mesmerant Discs' in the narrative) induce a hypnotic illusion of opulence, blinding wearers to the city's true decay. The devices grip tightly to most wearers (Doctor, Ian, Susan), trapping them in the deception, but Barbara's disc fails to adhere, causing searing pain, flashing lights, and discordant noise that shatters the illusion and reveals reality. The affected individuals (Doctor, Ian, Susan) dismiss Barbara's warnings as madness, remaining entranced by the illusion. Altos later intervenes in the scene. The malfunction on Barbara forces the Morpho to abandon subtlety and order her elimination while planning intensified exposure for the others.
