Old Carriage Gateway

The weathered stone archway, its keystone cracked and moss-veined, serves as the stable courtyard’s original carriage entrance. Crumbling balustrades flank the arched opening, their edges frayed by centuries of disuse. Three uneven steps of worn limestone descend into the courtyard from the gateway’s shadow, slick with damp and topped with fallen oak leaves. Shrubs push through gaps in the masonry, their thorny branches catching at clothing and hinting at the gateway’s abandonment.
