Jo leads escape through ventilation

The rectangular ventilation hatch high in the radio room ceiling becomes the focal point of hope for escape. Jo uses it as the target, climbing onto the cleared table and forcing the hatch open with a screwdriver to create a pathway through the narrow ventilation shaft to the exterior.

Before: The hatch was closed and warped at one hinge, its edges blackened by prior forced entries or escapes. It represented a previously unused or inaccessible route.
After: Jo successfully pries the hatch open sufficiently to begin climbing into the tight ventilation shaft, transforming it from a sealed barrier into a potential escape route.

Jo escapes through ventilation shaft to roof

The rectangular ventilation hatch is forced open and used as the entry point into the narrow shaft. Hart physically lifts Jo into the shaft, and she drags herself along its riveted metal interior. The hatch remains open above the radio room as an escape route.
