Dormant Daleks in Lesterson's Laboratory
Sleek metallic Daleks stand inert in Lesterson's laboratory, their casings intact and motionless. Initially, two squat Dalek casings are recovered from the space capsule's interior, with a third later uncovered from a sealed hatch. The Doctor examines them up close, warning of their potential revival and the existential threat they pose to the colony. Lesterson dismisses the danger, insisting they are harmless in their dormant state, while Polly notes their unthreatening stillness and Ben scoffs at the perceived risk. The Governor and Resno witness the escalating tension over the colony's fractures and the Daleks' true nature as interstellar killing machines. One of these Daleks (later referred to as 'Lesterson's Experimental Dalek') is wired by Janley and Resno in Lesterson's laboratory, with electrodes hooked to its systems. Power surges cause its sucker arm to twitch and its eye-stick to rise slowly, while Resno recoils in fear, recalling a near-fatal shock from touching it earlier. Lesterson orders more power and conceals the accident to avoid shutdown by the Examiner. The Daleks' dormant state is repeatedly challenged by Lesterson's experiments, foreshadowing their deadly awakening.
