Faulty Low Orbital Satellite
A compact satellite system positioned in low Earth orbit designed to transmit navigation signals. Initially described as a functional low orbital navigation satellite, subsequent examination reveals it to be a faulty, bulky metallic transmitter with exposed wiring and a cracked housing, mounted on the roof of the stranded bus. Its controls include flickering indicator lights and primitive dials, capable only of rudimentary radio transmissions. The Doctor identifies it as the source of the bus's failing systems, describing it as a 'crude low orbital satellite capable only of rudimentary radio transmissions.' Its malfunction or deliberate jamming disrupts the bus's navi-pod, forcing the vehicle off-course and stranding the group near the chalets. Murray's attempt to repair it by destroying a new Quarb crystal exposes its untrustworthy design. The system's failure exposes the fragility of their escape plan and the reliance on fragile technology for survival.
