The loading hatch serves as both exit and trap during the climactic struggle. The Doctor and soldiers push the Dalek toward it, using the hatch’s opening to hurl their enemy into the void below. Its rusted mechanism groans under strain as the alien’s dome wedges briefly before gravity completes its forced exit.
