Rectangular metal plates strapped across the troopers’ torsos, their dark surfaces unreflective in the cave dimness. The plates clatter faintly against webbing and pouches as the squad moves, their fitted straps adjusting each time Chellak snaps another order. When Chellak shouts that the android will not target the belt plate, one trooper glances down at the protective plating like an unconscious reassurance, confirming it covers their vital organs before the alien assassin’s next burst of fire erupts.
