Small Windows at Head Height

The basement kitchen's sole source of light comes from two small windows set high on the wall, barely wider than a person's shoulders. Positioned just above head height for the average adult, they allow dim, diffuse daylight to filter into the otherwise windowless space. Their narrow glass panes, grimy with age and neglect, barely illuminate the drugged women lying on the stone floor, their unconscious forms outlined in faint, shifting shadows.
