Mel's Laundry Basket
A standard wire mesh laundry basket, its plain galvanized frame bent slightly out of shape where the Vervoids forced it shut. Two flimsy wire handles protrude from opposite sides, the lower one crimped where a Worker’s gloved hand gripped it. The basket sits half-buried in a pile of discarded towels, its empty interior just large enough to contain a struggling Mel’s legs and torso while the Vervoids wheel her toward the pulverizer. The metal creaks softly with every jostle of their wheeled cart.
