The guard’s damp pullover sweater clings heavily to the Doctor’s limbs as he pulls it on in haste. Its oversized sleeves swallow his hands momentarily, forcing a frantic adjustment before he abandons stealth for outright disguise, using the sweater and jacket as final camouflage.

Doctor exploits guard disguise for escape

The damp guard jacket served as both shield and prop for the Doctor. It changed a distinctive stranger into an anonymous functionary inside a hostile installation, allowing rapid transit past sensitive points. After being fastened tight over the Doctor’s frame, the jacket’s stiffened collar and seawater reek could not hide its new wielder but instead broadcast the required illusion of routine.
