The great leather-bound research book lies open during the ceremony, the Doctor’s dimly illuminated reading illuminating its cracked vellum under the brass chandelier. After he closes his inquiry its weight and presence remain ignored by the chanting chorus, a silent witness to an ending research arc and ignored intellectual anchor.
