Transmogrifier

The Transmogrifier continues its grotesque transformation of Peri and Areta even after the Doctor arrives, its pulsing cyan glyphs reflecting their warping bodies. Its control console, a critical machinery component, becomes the target of the Doctor’s gunshots, which disable the bombardment beams and shatter its function. The Doctor’s rapid intervention recognizes that stopping the machine’s power flow is the only way to halt the irreversible transmutation of living tissue.

The Transmogrifier pulses violet-white bombardment beams into Peri and Areta’s restrained bodies, causing grotesque physiological changes. Peri’s hand sprouts feathers while Areta’s limbs twist toward reptilian forms. The Doctor identifies the flaw—the process is irreversible once initiated—and targets the console controlling it.

The Transmogrifier hums above Peri and Areta, its beams warping their forms as it feeds on self-perception — Peri’s right hand feathers, Areta’s limbs reptilian. Before reversal can begin, the Doctor shoots its control console, triggering failure in the device. Its arms retract in flickering sparks as the rebellion’s first blow against the regime is struck.

The Transmogrifier remained inactive in this scene, yet Peri references it verbally in dialogue with the Doctor and Sil, triggering an unspoken threat that underscores Varos’s brutal tools and the fragility of human bodies.
