The cellar wall’s brickwork is a jumbled assembly of small red bricks along with centuries-old crumbling mortar, mortared together to form a solid barrier that has held for decades. The mortar serves as both structural component and concealment mechanism for deeper secrets. Duggan strikes it with his shoulder, his frustration boiling over as the Doctor’s intellectual approach conflicts with his own direct action. The bricks and crumbling mortar splinter slightly under the impact, dust and fragments raining down as Duggan forces a gap large enough to squeeze through, exposing the Count's hidden installations.

Duggan smashes through the cellar wall

The old cellar mortar, already degraded from the Doctor’s chipping, becomes the immediate target of Duggan’s frustration. After the Doctor’s delay tactics, Duggan weaponizes his own body against it, reducing it to rubble with his shoulder and kicks. Its destruction symbolizes Duggan’s rejection of the Doctor’s measured approach and creates an escape passage.
