Shovels and hammers from a communal pile are seized by Jack and his friends, repurposed from mining tools into weapons of sudden violence. Their heavy heads and worn handles are swung with brutal force toward the Doctor in the confined space of the pit head.

Before: Stacked neatly in a pile near the cart rail, clean and unused beyond typical mine work.

After: One shovel’s blade is bent from striking the Doctor’s hand, and both tools bear fresh dents and smudges of coal and blood. They are dropped or discarded once the violence is halted by Ravensworth’s intervention.
