The Snows of Terror
After a treacherous rescue, Barbara, Ian, Susan, and Sabetha seek refuge from the deadly cold only to be betrayed by their saviour, forcing them to brave the elements once more to save each other and retrieve a vital key.
Having narrowly escaped the dangers of the previous trials, Barbara and Ian find themselves separated from the Doctor and trapped in a harsh, icy landscape. They collapse from exhaustion in the snow where Barbara briefly awakens to see someone taking the micro-key from her hand. A fur-clad figure, Vasar, rescues them from the brink of death, taking them to his remote hut. He revives them from the brink of death, nursing frostbite and offering warm drinks.
However, their respite is short-lived. Vasar reveals that a madman named Altos, also seeking travelers, had come to his hut earlier, searching for two girls. Ian realizes Altos is looking for Susan and Sabetha. Driven by concern for Susan and Sabetha, Ian resolves to find Altos, despite Vasar's warnings of an impending storm. Vasar reluctantly provides warm clothing, but demands Ian's valuable wrist device as collateral.
Alone with Vasar, Barbara grows suspicious. She discovers Sabetha's chain and the travel dials in a drawer, confronting Vasar about them. He claims he found Susan and Sabetha hiding in a cave and traded them food and flint for their possessions, but Barbara doesn't believe him. Her suspicions deepen when Vasar inadvertently reveals that Ian's bag contains raw meat, intended to attract wolves and prevent his return.
Meanwhile, Ian finds Altos tied up in the snow, learning that Vasar is the one who betrayed him. Altos warns Ian of Vasar's ruthlessness and his intention to lure wolves. They race back to the hut to protect Barbara. Back at the hut, Barbara defends herself against Vasar with a fireplace poker. Ian and Altos arrive just in time to rescue Barbara, who reveals that Susan and Sabetha are alive, hidden in a cave on the mountain. They force Vasar to lead them to the cave.
Inside the mountain, Susan and Sabetha become lost in a network of tunnels. They encounter a room guarded by four knights frozen alive in blocks of ice. The group is reunited, but Vasar betrays them again, destroying the only bridge across a chasm and leaving them stranded. The group finds a way across the chasm. They reach the room with the knights where they discover the micro-key encased in ice. Using a volcanic vent, Barbara melts the ice, but the frozen knights come alive. The group barely escapes, with Susan bravely using a makeshift rope to cross the bridge safely. Ian severs the bridge, sending one of the knights plummeting into the chasm.
Returning to Vasar's hut, they find him gloating over his ill-gotten gains. As they retrieve their possessions, a hammering at the door signals the arrival of the animated ice warriors. Desperate, Vasar grabs Susan, threatening to kill her unless the others remain. Before he can act, a sword pierces him through the door, killing him instantly. As the knights break into the hut, the travelers activate their travel dials and vanish, leaving the animated knights to find an empty hut.
