The Traitors

The Doctor and his companions must evade capture after discovering Mavic Chen's treacherous alliance with the Daleks, racing against time to expose Chen's plot and prevent the Daleks from conquering the Solar System, even if it costs them their lives.

Following the destruction of the planet Desperus by the Daleks, the Doctor, Steven, and Katarina find themselves aboard a Spar ship commandeered by Bret Vyon, a Space Security agent fleeing from Chen. They are forced to reroute to the planet Kembel when Kirksen, a desperate man seeking refuge from Desperus, takes Katarina hostage. However, Katarina sacrifices herself by opening the airlock, saving her friends from Kirksen but dooming herself to the vacuum of space.

Meanwhile, the Daleks, in communication with Mavic Chen, task him with retrieving the stolen taranium core of the Time Destructor and eliminating the Doctor and his companions. Chen, motivated by his insatiable lust for power and a desire to rule the universe alongside the Daleks, readily accepts the mission. Back on Earth, Chen convenes with Lizan and Karlton, head of Special Security, to identify and capture the traitors, Bret Vyon and Gantry. He orders all Space Security agents to return to Earth and instructs them to kill the traitors on sight.

The Spar ship crash-lands at an experimental station outside Central City. Bret hopes his friend Daxtar can help them. Chen anticipates the arrival and orders the area cordoned off. The Doctor, Steven, and Bret seek refuge in Daxtar's office, where they reveal Chen's alliance with the Daleks. However, the Doctor suspects Daxtar's involvement in Chen's scheme, and Bret, enraged by Daxtar's treachery regarding the taranium, impulsively kills him.

As Bret attempts to contact authorities from the Security building, Sara Kingdom confronts them, demanding the taranium. When Bret refuses, Steven pushes Sara off balance and attempts to flee with the Doctor, but Sara, loyal to Chen and determined to retrieve the taranium, fatally shoots Bret. The episode concludes with Sara searching Bret's body as the Doctor and Steven escape.

Act 1

The episode opens with Kirksen holding Katarina hostage aboard the Spar ship, demanding a course change to Kembel. Despite the Doctor and Steven's warnings about the Daleks' presence, Kirksen insists, driven by his desperate fear of returning to the devastated planet Desperus. Simultaneously, the Dalek Supreme contacts Mavic Chen through a secret communication channel, instructing him to retrieve the stolen taranium core of the Time Destructor and eliminate the creatures who took it, explicitly revealing Chen's treacherous alliance with the Daleks and his deep involvement in their master plan for universal conquest. Back on the Spar ship, a tense standoff in the airlock culminates in Katarina's heroic sacrifice; she deliberately opens the outer doors, pulling herself and Kirksen into the vacuum of space to save her companions. This devastating loss profoundly impacts the Doctor and Steven, who mourn her selflessness. With the Spar ship damaged and their original course compromised, Bret decides to crash-land at an experimental station near Central City on Earth, hoping a friend named Daxtar can provide assistance and refuge, unaware of the extensive security measures already in place to apprehend them.

Act 2

On Earth, Mavic Chen convenes with Lizan and Karlton, Head of the Special Security Service, initiating a comprehensive manhunt for Bret Vyon and Gantry. Chen, driven by his insatiable ambition for power, orders all Space Security agents recalled to Earth and instructs them to kill the traitors on sight, solidifying his treacherous alliance with the Daleks and his desire to rule the universe alongside them. He also reveals his intention to sideline Trantis within the Galactic Council, positioning himself as the Daleks' primary human ally in their conquest. Karlton dispatches Sara Kingdom, a ruthless and efficient Special Security operative, to the experimental station where the Spar ship crash-landed, tasking her with retrieving the taranium. Meanwhile, the Doctor, Steven, and Bret seek refuge in Daxtar's office. Daxtar initially feigns ignorance of Chen's plot, but the Doctor's astute questioning exposes Daxtar's complicity and his prior knowledge of the taranium's nature. Enraged by this betrayal, Bret impulsively draws his gun and fatally shoots Daxtar, eliminating a potential source of information and further entangling the fugitives in a web of violence and mistrust.

Act 3

Following Daxtar's death, Bret, determined to expose Chen, proposes a desperate plan to infiltrate the Security building and broadcast a warning across the planets. The Doctor and Steven express skepticism, highlighting the increased danger and the loss of a potential information source due to Bret's impulsive act. Their discussion is abruptly interrupted when Sara Kingdom, having tracked them to Daxtar's office, confronts the group, demanding the taranium. Bret attempts to protect the Doctor and Steven, urging them to flee while he distracts Sara. In the ensuing struggle, Steven shoves Sara, creating a diversion that allows himself and the Doctor to dash out of the door. Bret, refusing to yield the taranium, draws his own weapon, but Sara proves quicker, fatally shooting him. The episode concludes with Sara efficiently searching Bret's lifeless body for the taranium, while the Doctor and Steven, now completely isolated and without their last human ally, make their escape, leaving them vulnerable and relentlessly hunted.
