Counter Plot

When the Doctor, Steven, and Space Security Agent Sara are caught in a molecular dissemination experiment, they're scattered across space to the dangerous planet Mira, where they must evade invisible predators and the pursuing Daleks to secure the vital taranium core.

The Doctor and Steven, attempting to escape their pursuers, find themselves in an experiment room where they encounter Sara, a Space Security agent. Before they can resolve their conflict, the scientists initiate a molecular dissemination experiment, which transports the trio, along with a capsule of mice, to the inhospitable planet Mira. Borker and Karlton arrive at the experiment control room, learning the three have been scattered light years away.

On Mira, the Doctor, Steven, and Sara struggle to survive the strange environment and the attacks of invisible creatures called Visians. Sara grapples with her blind obedience to the Guardian, Mavic Chen when Steven reveals Chen's treachery and that her own brother, Bret, was killed for knowing too much. The Doctor deduces that a transmitter, sent with them, is signaling their location to Earth, and thus, to the Daleks.

Back on Earth, Karlton and Mavic Chen conspire to deceive the Daleks. Chen returns to Kembel, intending to manipulate the situation to his advantage, aiming for a position of ultimate power. Karlton plans to sabotage the Daleks efforts from afar. They hope to regain control over the solar system, betraying the Daleks when the time is right.

On Mira, the Daleks detect the signals and arrive. They destroy the transmitter, eliminating any chance of contact with Earth. The Daleks begin hunting the Doctor and his companions, facing resistance from the invisible Visians. Meanwhile, the scientists on Earth realize their communication link has been severed, raising suspicions about the fugitives' actions.

The episode ends with the Doctor, Steven, and Sara trapped on Mira surrounded by invisible enemies and hunted by the Daleks, while Mavic Chen positions himself for ultimate power and Karlton enacts a scheme to oppose the Daleks. Sara is starting to believe the pair and mourn the loss of her brother. All while the trio must figure out how to escape Mira and prevent the Daleks from getting the taranium.

Act 1

The Doctor and Steven, on the run, seek refuge in a peculiar experiment room filled with silvered panels and a glass capsule containing mice. Their brief respite ends abruptly when Space Security Agent Sara Vyon bursts in, weapon drawn, demanding the taranium. Before Sara can act, the room's walls glow intensely, and a molecular dissemination experiment activates, scattering the trio and the mouse capsule across space. Unaware of the fugitives' presence, scientists Froyn and Rhynmal monitor the experiment, which Borker and a guard briefly interrupt, searching for the escapees. Post-experiment, Borker returns with the scientists to find the room empty, leading to a frantic realization that the three individuals have been transmitted light-years away to the distant planet Mira. Karlton and Mavic Chen quickly learn of the incident, with Chen seizing the opportunity to spin the event as a calculated security measure to the Daleks. He plans to use this deception to further his own ambitions for ultimate power, while Karlton, his subordinate, outwardly supports the scheme but harbors his own intentions to undermine the Daleks.

Act 2

The Doctor, Steven, and Sara rematerialize on the desolate, mist-shrouded surface of Mira. The Doctor, after confirming the taranium core's safety, begins to investigate their strange new environment, quickly identifying the planet and its invisible, vicious inhabitants, the Visians. Steven tends to a recovering Sara, disarming her. Meanwhile, on Earth, the scientists confirm the mice's successful rematerialization but cannot locate the Doctor and his companions. The Daleks, having detected signals from Mira, dispatch a pursuit ship. Upon arrival, a Dalek patrol locates the Earth transmitter, which the Doctor had deduced was signaling their location. Believing it to be an alien device, the Daleks destroy the transmitter and the mice within it, severing the Earth team's only link to the fugitives. Back on Mira, the Doctor, Steven, and Sara take shelter in a cave, where Steven confronts Sara about Mavic Chen's treachery, revealing that Chen ordered the death of her brother, Bret. Sara, initially defiant and loyal to Chen, struggles with the truth, which the Doctor confirms, leading to her distraught realization that Bret Vyon was her brother and was killed under false pretenses.

Act 3

The Doctor, Steven, and Sara find themselves increasingly imperiled on Mira. The Doctor's attempts to investigate outside their cave lead to a direct encounter with the invisible Visians, forcing him to defend himself with his walking stick. Inside the cave, Sara grapples with the traumatic revelation of her brother's death and Chen's betrayal, her initial disbelief giving way to profound grief and a dawning trust in the Doctor and Steven. As the invisible Visians close in on their cave, trapping them, the trio faces the immediate challenge of survival against both the unseen predators and the pursuing Daleks. Concurrently, Mavic Chen, having successfully manipulated the Daleks into believing his fabricated story, prepares to return to Kembel. He instructs Karlton to proceed to Venus and await further orders, articulating his grand vision of outwitting the Daleks and achieving ultimate power, starting with mastery over their galaxy. Karlton, while seemingly compliant, harbors his own strategic objectives to oppose the Daleks, setting the stage for a complex web of betrayals and power struggles.
