Escape Switch

When the Doctor's theft strands the Monk, he allies with the Daleks, but Chen double-crosses him, leaving the Doctor to bargain for his friends' freedom while sabotaging the Daleks' time travel to Kembel.

Following the Doctor's escape, The Monk, now revealed as a time-traveling rogue, seeks to regain favor with the Daleks, offering Steven and Sara as hostages. Chen, ever pragmatic, sees the value in this arrangement, using the hostages to lure the Doctor and demand the return of the Taranium Core. The Doctor, arriving despite the danger, agrees to the Daleks' terms but insists on a prisoner exchange at the Great Pyramid to minimize treachery.

As the Doctor retrieves the Taranium Core from the TARDIS, Hyksos's forces prepare an ambush, hoping to destroy the Dalek war machines. Chen and a Dalek meet the doctor at the pyramid. The Doctor, using the opportunity to free his companions, hands over the core and then immediately flees.

Chaos erupts as Hyksos's men attack, luring the Daleks into a trap within the pyramid's construction. Despite the partial victory, the Doctor reveals he has given Chen a fake Taranium Core. However, he is determined to get to Kembel. To aid, he reveals that he has stolen the directional unit from the Monk's TARDIS. The Doctor also reveals he has transformed the Monk's TARDIS into a police box, which is what the Daleks will now be hunting.

As the Daleks pursue the Monk's TARDIS, Chen reassures them that the mission was a complete success and they have the real core, so they can leave for Kembel. Meanwhile, the Doctor, Steven, and Sara attempt to use the stolen directional unit to reach Kembel, aware of the risks it poses to the TARDIS. Stranded on an ice planet, The Monk vows revenge on the Doctor, setting the stage for future encounters, unaware that the Daleks are hunting him.

Act 1

The episode opens with Steven and Sara discovering the Monk, bandaged and trapped in a sarcophagus, a direct consequence of the Doctor's previous actions. The Monk, freed, recounts his ordeal, subtly manipulating Steven and Sara into believing he is a victim. Simultaneously, inside the Dalek time machine, the Daleks express impatience over the Monk's failure to deliver the Taranium Core, leading to a tense exchange where Chen attempts to rationalize the delay and assert his authority. The Daleks, however, remain rigid, ordering Chen to accompany them as they disembark to find the core. Steven, Sara, and the Monk venture outside the pyramid in search of the Doctor, only to be intercepted and captured by two Daleks. The Monk, ever the opportunist, immediately offers Steven and Sara as hostages to Chen, hoping to regain favor and secure his own safety. Chen, recognizing the Doctor's loyalty, agrees to use the companions as leverage. He then broadcasts an ultimatum across the desert, demanding the Doctor's surrender of the Taranium Core in exchange for his friends' lives. The Doctor, hearing this broadcast, prepares to confront the Daleks.

Act 2

The Doctor responds to Chen's ultimatum, arriving outside the Dalek time machine and demanding proof of his friends' captivity. Upon seeing Steven, Sara, and the Monk, the Doctor agrees to hand over the Taranium Core but insists on his own terms: no Dalek escort and a specific rendezvous point at the west angle of the Great Pyramid, where Chen and only one Dalek will meet him. He further demands the simultaneous release of all three prisoners, including the Monk, before he surrenders the core, citing a lack of trust. While the Daleks reluctantly accept these terms, Hyksos and his men prepare an ambush for the Daleks, positioning themselves around the pyramid, unaware of the Doctor's impending exchange. The Doctor retrieves a device from his TARDIS, which he claims is the Taranium Core. At the rendezvous, the Doctor reiterates his conditions, ensuring Steven, Sara, and the Monk are released first. He then hands over the 'core' to Chen and immediately flees into the chaos as Hyksos's men launch their attack, drawing the Daleks into a trap within the pyramid's construction, creating a diversion for the Doctor's escape.

Act 3

Safely inside a tomb, the Doctor reveals his cunning deception: he gave Chen a fake Taranium Core. He then produces the directional unit he stole from the Monk's TARDIS, explaining that this will allow them to reach Kembel. Further, he reveals he transformed the Monk's TARDIS into a police telephone box, identical to his own, ensuring the Daleks will pursue the wrong target. As the Doctor, Steven, and Sara enter the Doctor's TARDIS, the Monk, having escaped the initial chaos, discovers his TARDIS is now a police box. Daleks, mistaking it for the Doctor's, attack and pursue the Monk's TARDIS as it dematerializes. Chen, witnessing this, reassures the Daleks that the operation was a complete success and that he possesses the real Taranium Core, urging them to proceed to Kembel. Meanwhile, inside the Doctor's TARDIS, he explains the risks of using the stolen directional unit, highlighting the possibility of destroying the center column but affirming a slim chance of success. The Daleks, convinced by Chen, prepare to dematerialize for Kembel. The Monk, stranded on an ice planet, realizes the Doctor's final trick and vows revenge, unaware that the Daleks are now hunting him through time and space, believing him to be the Doctor.
