The Faceless Ones Part 4

When the Doctor, Jamie, and Samantha uncover a sinister plot involving Chameleon Tours abducting young people, they must race against time to expose the organization's alien scheme and save Polly, Ben, and Brian from an unknown fate.

The Doctor, Jamie, and Samantha find themselves embroiled in a perplexing mystery centered around Chameleon Tours, where passengers vanish without a trace. The episode opens with Jamie desperately trying to revive the Doctor after an attack, only to be confronted by Spencer, one of the antagonists. Samantha intervenes, but they are all incapacitated by a laser trap, narrowly escaping death by using a mirror to reflect the beam back at its source.

As they recover, they realize the urgency of their situation, compounded by the disappearances of Polly and Ben. They deduce that Chameleon Tours is at the heart of the matter. Samantha volunteers to investigate the Chameleon Kiosk, while the Doctor and Jamie head to the Medical Centre, a place they saw on a monitor, suspecting a connection. At the Medical Centre, they realize people are being duplicated using technology. The Doctor feigns illness for Jamie to gain access, but their ruse is quickly detected.

Meanwhile, at Air Traffic Control, Jean discovers that Chameleon flights never deliver their passengers to their destinations. The Doctor attempts to persuade Commandant into thinking this is down to Aliens, something he dismisses. The Commandant, now suspicious, plans to have the next Chameleon flight followed by an RAF fighter jet. Samantha, determined to uncover the truth, purchases a ticket for the next Chameleon flight to Rome, but Jamie, concerned for her safety, secretly takes her ticket, intending to go in her place.

As Chameleon flight 419 takes off, the RAF fighter tailing it is mysteriously destroyed by a beam from the Chameleon plane. Simultaneously, the Chameleon plane stops mid-air, revealing its true nature; it's alien technology. As it hovers, Jamie travels on board becoming increasinly pale. Ann, a crew member, collects a small object from each seat in the now-empty passenger cabin. The episode concludes with her possibly missing Jamie's object because he ran to the bathroom, hinting at unforeseen complications for the aliens.

Act 1

The episode opens with Jamie's desperate attempt to revive the Doctor in the Chameleon Tours Hangar, only for Spencer to confront him. Samantha intervenes, but all three are incapacitated by Spencer's weapon. Spencer then sets a laser trap, leaving them to die. The trio narrowly escapes by reflecting the laser beam back at its source using Samantha's mirror, demonstrating their ingenuity under duress. Upon recovery, they quickly realize the grave danger and the urgency of finding Polly, Ben, and Brian, whom they suspect are held in the same unknown location. The Doctor deduces that their captors' plans are nearing completion, necessitating swift action. They decide to split up: Samantha volunteers to investigate the Chameleon Kiosk, a place where Spencer might be seen, while the Doctor and Jamie head to the Medical Centre, which they previously observed on a monitor. At the Medical Centre, they witness Nurse Pinto transforming Jenkins from Immigration into a duplicate, confirming their suspicions about the alien duplication technology. The Doctor feigns illness for Jamie to gain access to the X-ray room, but their ruse is quickly detected by Nurse Pinto, who denies them entry, citing another patient. This initial attempt to infiltrate the core operation is thwarted, forcing them to regroup and reconsider their approach to uncovering the full extent of the alien plot. Spencer and the duplicated Jenkins observe their departure, marking the Doctor as a significant threat.

Act 2

The narrative shifts to Air Traffic Control, where Jean discovers a critical anomaly: Chameleon flights never deliver their passengers to their stated destinations. She contacts various airports, confirming that young passengers are picked up but never arrive, suggesting a secret airfield or a more sinister purpose. The Doctor attempts to persuade the Commandant that aliens are involved, a theory he dismisses as ridiculous, yet the mounting evidence begins to sway him. Despite his skepticism, the Commandant, now suspicious, plans to have the next Chameleon flight followed by an RAF fighter jet. Simultaneously, the Doctor, recognizing the Medical Centre's importance, enlists Jean's help to create a diversion, allowing him to infiltrate the X-ray room. He successfully bypasses security, discovering hidden electrical switches and a cupboard containing black and white armbands, which he pockets for further investigation. This confirms the Medical Centre's role in the alien scheme. Meanwhile, at the Chameleon Tours Kiosk, Samantha, determined to find her brother, purchases a ticket for the next flight to Rome. Jamie, deeply concerned for her safety and recalling the Doctor's warning about the mission being unsuitable for a "wee lassie," secretly takes her ticket during a feigned embrace, intending to go in her place. This act of protective deception sets up a critical shift in the mission's immediate personnel.

Act 3

With Jamie now unknowingly on board, Chameleon flight 419 takes off, shadowed by the RAF fighter jet. The Commandant and the Doctor monitor the pursuit from Air Traffic Control, with the Doctor expressing his skepticism about the fighter's effectiveness against an unknown threat. As the RAF pilot reports visual contact, the Chameleon plane suddenly targets and destroys the fighter jet with a beam of light, shocking the observers in Air Traffic Control. Immediately after, the Chameleon plane stops mid-air, defying conventional physics, and begins to fold its wings back into the fuselage, revealing its true alien nature. The passenger cabin is eerily empty, and Jamie, visibly pale and disoriented, makes a desperate sprint for the rear toilets, a subtle sign of the alien influence taking hold. Ann, a crew member, systematically collects a small, unidentified object from each seat in the now-vacant cabin. In her methodical collection, she loses her place and, seeing Jamie's seat empty, assumes she has already collected his object, moving on. This potential oversight, due to Jamie's timely exit to the bathroom, hints at unforeseen complications for the aliens' plan, suggesting that Jamie might not be fully processed or duplicated like the other passengers, leaving a crucial element of unpredictability for the unfolding crisis.
