The Enemy of the World Part 6

The Doctor must expose Salamander's global scheme of manufactured disasters, while evading capture and revealing the truth to Salamander's manipulated followers, all before Salamander eliminates him and consolidates his power over a terrified world.

The Doctor, along with Jamie and Victoria, arrives at a research station controlled by the charismatic Salamander, who appears to be a benevolent leader solving world hunger and brokering peace. However, the Doctor suspects Salamander is behind a series of devastating natural disasters plaguing the planet. Bruce, a skeptical World Security Controller, questions the Doctor's outlandish claims but grows concerned when he sees evidence of Salamander's deceit.

The Doctor, while impersonating Salamander to gain access, learns that Salamander has been manipulating people in an underground shelter, convincing them that the surface world is irradiated due to a past war. He discovers Giles Kent, Salamander's former associate who seeks revenge. Kent reveals Salamander's control over manufacturing global disasters and his exploitation of the sheltered people.

Astrid, a brave individual who ventured into the underground tunnels, learns of the deception from a dying man named Swann. She uncovers the truth about the fake radiation meter, revealing Salamander's lies to the sheltered people, including Colin and Mary. Together, they seek justice against Salamander and Kent.

Kent confronts Salamander in the records room, leading to a tense standoff. Bruce attempts to break into the records room from the outside, while Kent reveals a hidden escape route. The Doctor exposes Kent's own ambition to take Salamander's place, turning Astrid and the freed underground dwellers against him. Kent, in a desperate attempt, tries to blow up the facility but fails.

Salamander escapes, shooting Kent and leaving him to die in the explosion. The Doctor, Astrid, and Bruce escape the records room just before it is destroyed. Astrid is determined to rescue the people in the underground shelter and Bruce promises to assist her and to trust the Doctor.

The Doctor sends Jamie and Victoria back to the TARDIS. Salamander waylays the Doctor outside the TARDIS and boards the TARDIS disguised as the Doctor, revealing the real Doctor was outside. Salamander attempts to seize control, but Jamie intervenes. As the TARDIS dematerializes with its doors open, Salamander is ejected into the vortex, presumably destroyed, bringing an end to his reign of terror.

Act 1

The Doctor, Jamie, and Bruce convene in the interrogation room, where the Doctor articulates his conviction that Salamander orchestrates global natural disasters, asserting that proof resides within the Records Room. Simultaneously, Astrid encounters a dying Swann in an underground tunnel. Swann reveals Salamander's elaborate deception: people are held captive, indoctrinated to believe the surface world is irradiated from a fabricated war. The Doctor, masterfully impersonating Salamander, gathers critical intelligence, noting a significant discrepancy in catering provisions that confirms the presence of more individuals than officially accounted for. He deftly navigates a situation involving a jammed Records Room door, preventing Benik from accessing it. The Doctor then sends Jamie and Victoria to safety, instructing them to contact Bruce's deputy, Forrester, thereby initiating a two-pronged approach to the crisis. Meanwhile, Astrid, having penetrated the underground main room, faces initial hostility from the sheltered populace, who perceive her as a dangerous, radiation-carrying surface dweller. She meticulously exposes Salamander's fake radiation meter, using a simple ruler to demonstrate its fraudulent nature. This revelation convinces Colin and Mary of the profound deception, transforming their fear into a resolve to confront Salamander. This act establishes the central conflict, unveils the depth of Salamander's manipulation, and propels the protagonists toward direct action.

Act 2

Giles Kent, Salamander's disgruntled former associate, confronts Salamander in the Records Room, sealing the entrance and revealing his intent to assassinate Salamander and seize power, brandishing a gun. Outside, Bruce and Benik attempt to breach the Records Room door, but its X-structure alloy construction proves impervious. Bruce, asserting his authority as World Security Controller, disarms Benik and summons his deputy, Forrester, leading to Benik's immediate arrest. Inside the Records Room, the Doctor, Astrid, Colin, and Mary arrive, having followed Kent. The Doctor then exposes Kent's true, self-serving ambitions, revealing his desire to replace Salamander rather than merely expose him, thereby turning Astrid and the newly freed underground dwellers against him. In a desperate gambit, Kent attempts to escape through a hidden vertical shaft, threatening to detonate explosives and obliterate the entire facility. However, Salamander, having also utilized the secret escape route, ambushes Kent in the tunnel. Salamander shoots Kent, leaving him to perish in the subsequent explosion. The Research Station is violently rocked by the blast, and the Records Room door bursts open. The Doctor, Astrid, and Bruce narrowly escape the collapsing room, believing both Salamander and Kent are dead. Astrid, remembering her solemn promise to Swann, insists on rescuing the remaining underground people, and Bruce, now fully convinced of the Doctor's integrity, pledges his unwavering assistance.

Act 3

Following the devastating explosion, the Doctor, Astrid, and Bruce confirm the survival of the underground people via a monitor screen. Astrid, resolute in her commitment to Swann, plans to lead a rescue mission through an external tunnel, with Bruce volunteering to accompany her. The Doctor, recognizing the danger of being mistaken for Salamander, agrees to proceed only as far as the gates, instructing Jamie and Victoria to return to the TARDIS. As Jamie assists what he believes is the Doctor into the TARDIS, the real Doctor appears, dramatically exposing the imposter as Salamander, who had meticulously disguised himself to gain access. Salamander, now unmasked, lunges violently for the TARDIS console, intent on seizing control and eliminating the Doctor. Jamie intervenes decisively, pulling Salamander away from the Doctor, who is thrown to the floor. During the intense struggle, the TARDIS dematerializes with its doors still open, creating a powerful and unstable vortex. Unable to secure himself against the immense forces, Salamander is violently sucked out into the time vortex, ensuring his definitive destruction. The Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria cling desperately to the TARDIS interior, having narrowly averted catastrophe. Salamander's reign of terror concludes, and the world is finally free from his manipulative schemes.
