Fury From The Deep Part 6

When an ancient seaweed intelligence threatens to conquer humanity by controlling minds through a North Sea gas rig, the Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria must find a way to stop the menace, before it spreads across the globe and enslaves all mankind.

The Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria arrive at a North Sea gas rig to find the crew succumbing to a strange influence that is linked to a deadly, intelligent seaweed creature gaining control over their minds and bodies. The root of the problem is located on a nearby control rig. The Doctor and his companions quickly find themselves in a desperate battle to save humanity from a silent invasion. Soon, the Doctor discovers that the weed is taking over the minds of the crew who are working on the rig, and the weed wants to rule the world. Robson, in charge of the rig, succumbs to the weed's influence.

As the Doctor and his companions search for a way to destroy the weed and free the minds of the people it has consumed, Victoria inadvertently makes an important discovery when her screams cause pain to Robson and others under the weed's influence. The Doctor realizes sound vibrations can kill the weed. After escaping to the mainland, the Doctor proposes amplifying Victoria's scream through the rig's pipeline system to destroy the weed's nerve center, located on the Control Rig. Despite initial resistance, Harris agrees to the plan, with the Doctor and his allies working feverishly to set up the equipment. The rig is becoming more and more invested with weed as time runs out.

As the weed attacks, Victoria screams, broadcast through the speakers, destroys the weed's nerve center. The Doctor and his companions return to the Harris's for the night. The Doctor recognizes that Victoria is ready to move on. The next morning, Victoria decides to stay with the Harrises, finding a new home and family. The Doctor and Jamie bid her a tearful farewell and depart in the TARDIS, leaving Victoria to embrace her new life on Earth. However, evil still lurks as it is revealed Robson is again under the influence of the weed. The episode closes with Robson approaching the Chief who is fixing a damaged pipe. The episode ends with the implication that Robson and the still living weed may be about to restart their evil plans.

Act 1

The Doctor finds himself trapped with a weed-controlled Robson, who attempts to convert him with toxic gas and chilling pronouncements about the obsolescence of the mind. Jamie's timely arrival allows Victoria to scream, a sound that causes Robson intense pain and reveals the weed's vulnerability. This discovery propels their desperate escape from the increasingly infested rig. They navigate a treacherous journey to the heli-pad, only to find their expected rescue helicopter unable to reach them through the pervasive foam. The Doctor, ever resourceful, commandeers Robson's helicopter, struggling to pilot the unfamiliar machine until guided to safety by an unseen pilot. Upon reaching the Control Hall, they interrupt Harris and Jones, who are on the verge of ordering a full evacuation, believing all hope lost. The Doctor, however, presents a radical new strategy: to amplify Victoria's unique scream through the rig's extensive pipeline system, targeting the weed's nerve center on the Control Rig itself. Despite Harris's profound skepticism and the compound's rapidly deteriorating state, the Doctor's conviction and the sheer desperation of their situation persuade him to grant a crucial half-hour, initiating the final, high-stakes preparations against the silent invasion.

Act 2

As the Doctor and his allies race against time, the weed's relentless advance intensifies, with foam and tendrils smashing through the Impeller Room doors, directly threatening the Control Hall. Inside, the team frantically sets up the sonic amplification equipment. Victoria, initially overwhelmed by the pressure, struggles to produce her crucial scream on command. However, witnessing the terrifying surge of foam bursting into the room galvanizes her, and she unleashes the powerful shriek necessary for the plan. Harris, facing the imminent collapse of their defenses, orders a full evacuation of the compound. The Doctor, however, pleads for a few more vital minutes, revealing his "sonic laser sound wave" device—a specialized amplifier designed to channel Victoria's scream into a destructive force through the pipelines. As the weed creatures finally breach the Control Hall doors, forcing everyone onto a raised platform, the Doctor activates the amplified scream. The electronic shriek rings out, initially appearing ineffective, but then the monstrous weed creature falters, writhing in agony. The foam begins a dramatic retreat, clearing the corridors and confirming the devastating success of the sonic attack, bringing a moment of profound relief and hard-won victory.

Act 3

In the aftermath of their victory, a celebratory dinner unfolds at the Harrises' quarters, bringing together the Doctor, Jamie, Victoria, and a seemingly recovered Robson. Amidst the relief, the Doctor subtly recognizes Victoria's profound weariness with their itinerant life and her growing desire for stability. He gently probes her, and she confesses her inclination to stay, finding a new sense of belonging with the Harrises. Despite Jamie's initial reluctance and emotional plea for her to remain with them, the Doctor champions Victoria's autonomy, affirming her right to choose her own path. The following morning, a poignant farewell takes place on the beach as Victoria embraces her new life, sharing a tearful goodbye with Jamie and the Doctor before they depart in the TARDIS. However, the apparent resolution is swiftly undermined by a chilling epilogue. Robson, alone in the Control Hall, dismisses the Chief and other crew members, ostensibly to allow them rest. His actions, coupled with the Chief's report of minor repairs needed on damaged pipes, subtly reveal that Robson is once again under the insidious influence of the weed. The episode concludes with a sinister implication: the weed's nerve center may be destroyed, but the creature itself, through Robson, still lurks, poised to renew its malevolent plans, leaving a potent sense of unresolved danger for the future.
