The Invasion Part 1

When the TARDIS is attacked and crash lands in England, the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy involving a powerful electronics company, International Electromatics, and a missing scientist.

The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe find themselves in a precarious situation as the TARDIS is targeted by a missile, forcing an emergency landing in 20th century England. They soon realize something is amiss when they encounter a man fleeing from International Electromatics (IE), a powerful and all-encompassing electronics company. The man reveals that IE has essentially taken over the local community, with those who resist disappearing. Seeking help, the Doctor hopes to find Professor Travers in London, but instead encounters Isobel Watkins, whose uncle, Professor Watkins, has mysteriously gone to work for IE.

Isobel is using Travers' laboratory as a photography studio and doesn't have much information except they can try calling IE. The Doctor attempts to contact Professor Watkins but is met with an automated and unhelpful response. Concerned, the Doctor and Jamie decide to visit IE headquarters but have to sneak past the automated reception. They are soon caught and gassed, but instead of being interrogated as it seems Packer would like, they are brought before the company's managing director, Tobias Vaughn.

Vaughn presents himself as a gracious host. He claims Professor Watkins is simply busy and refuses to be disturbed. The Doctor notices oddities about Vaughn's behavior, perceiving something inhuman beneath the surface. Exploiting an opportunity, Vaughn obtains some of the Doctor's TARDIS circuits under the guise of helping to repair them, also gifting Jamie a transistor radio, one of IE's main products. Despite Vaughn's apparent generosity, the Doctor remains deeply suspicious, suspecting that Vaughn is not what he seems and is likely involved in something sinister. The episode concludes with the Doctor and Jamie leaving IE, the Doctor intent on unraveling the mysteries surrounding International Electromatics and the whereabouts of Professor Watkins, with Vaughn's sinister nature casting a dark shadow over their investigation. Meanwhile, Isobel and Zoe become friends.

Act 1

The TARDIS crew endures a harrowing reassembly, only to find their ship targeted by a missile while adrift in space, necessitating a violent emergency landing in a tranquil 20th-century English pasture. This abrupt shift from cosmic peril to pastoral calm is quickly shattered by their encounter with a desperate man fleeing International Electromatics (IE), a monolithic corporation that has established an oppressive dominion over the local community, with any non-compliant individuals disappearing without a trace. This encounter serves as a chilling introduction to IE's pervasive control, culminating in the man's brutal execution by IE security forces after he attempts to aid the Doctor and his companions, unequivocally demonstrating the company's ruthless authority and the immediate danger they now face. Redirecting their efforts, the Doctor seeks out his old friend Professor Travers in London, only to discover Isobel Watkins occupying Travers' former residence. Isobel reveals her uncle, Professor Watkins, a scientist specializing in applied physics, has recently gone to work for IE under mysterious circumstances and is now inaccessible. A subsequent, frustrating attempt by the Doctor to contact Professor Watkins via IE's unyielding automated phone system further solidifies the company's impenetrable facade. Faced with this wall of corporate secrecy and the palpable threat IE represents, the Doctor resolves to confront the organization directly, leading Jamie to IE headquarters, a decision that propels them into the heart of the conspiracy.

Act 2

The Doctor and Jamie arrive at the imposing International Electromatics skyscraper, immediately encountering a sterile, automated reception system that mirrors the unhelpful phone service. Undeterred by the technological barriers, they attempt to bypass official channels by seeking an alternate entry, unaware that Tobias Vaughn, IE's managing director, observes their every move via security monitors. Vaughn, a figure of concealed menace, orders them "dealt with," leading to their swift capture via a gas attack in a deserted corridor. Unexpectedly, Vaughn intervenes, preventing Packer from interrogating them and instead summons them directly to his opulent office. There, Vaughn adopts a facade of gracious hospitality, feigning concern for their plight while subtly asserting his pervasive authority. The Doctor, however, perceives an unsettling, almost inhuman quality beneath Vaughn's charm, particularly noting his unnaturally infrequent blinking. Under the guise of assisting with TARDIS repairs, Vaughn shrewdly manipulates the Doctor into surrendering critical TARDIS circuits, a significant strategic loss for the protagonists and a clear demonstration of Vaughn's manipulative prowess. Vaughn further extends his "generosity" by gifting Jamie one of IE's popular transistor radios, a gesture that appears benign but deepens the Doctor's suspicion of the company's pervasive influence and potential ulterior motives.

Act 3

Following their unsettling encounter, the Doctor and Jamie depart International Electromatics headquarters, having suffered a significant setback with the loss of the TARDIS circuits, yet gaining crucial insight into their formidable adversary. As they exit the building, the Doctor articulates his profound unease, dismissing Jamie's attempts at levity and emphasizing Vaughn's unnervingly infrequent blinking—a subtle but tell-tale sign of an underlying, almost inhuman nature. He describes Vaughn as sinister, a figure whose superficial charm masks something deeply unsettling and dangerous, confirming the Doctor's initial suspicions. This chilling realization solidifies the Doctor's resolve; he is now more determined than ever to unravel the complex mysteries surrounding International Electromatics, the true whereabouts of Professor Watkins, and the full extent of Vaughn's malevolent involvement. The episode concludes with the Doctor's unwavering commitment to the ongoing investigation, a clear trajectory for future conflicts now firmly established. Concurrently, Zoe, having remained at Travers' house, begins to forge a genuine friendship with Isobel Watkins, establishing a potential support network and a secondary narrative thread that will undoubtedly prove valuable as the larger conspiracy unfolds, offering a contrasting note of human connection amidst the growing corporate threat.
