The Invasion Part 3

The Doctor and Jamie, in pursuit of their captured friends Zoe and Isobel, find themselves caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the ruthless industrialist Vaughn, who seeks the secrets of the Doctor's time-traveling machine for his own nefarious purposes.

Following Zoe and Isobel's disappearance, the Doctor and Jamie trace them to a warehouse, unaware it's a trap orchestrated by the powerful industrialist, Vaughn. Vaughn feigns cooperation, claiming the women have already left, but Jamie saw them taken away in crates. The Doctor and Jamie eventually agree to accompany Vaughn to his factory, but the Brigadier, suspicious of Vaughn's actions, orders UNIT to discreetly track them. Vaughn's true intentions become clear when he expresses interest in the Doctor's advanced technology and reveals that Zoe's computer skills disrupted his operations.

At the factory, the Doctor and Jamie are introduced to Professor Watkins, a scientist coerced by Vaughn to develop a new kind of "teaching machine." Vaughn uses Watkins' niece, Isobel, as leverage to force his cooperation. The Doctor, sensing Vaughn's dishonesty, attempts to dissuade Watkins from working with him. The Doctor discovers a deep-space radio communication system hidden within the facility, raising suspicions about Vaughn's ultimate goals.

Vaughn monitors the Doctor's conversations, discovering the Doctor's origins and his machine. Learning that the Doctor has been ordered to be destroyed by Vaughn's allies, Vaughn decides to take matters into his own hands, wanting the secrets of the Doctor's machine for himself. When the Doctor interferes with Vaughn's surveillance, Vaughn threatens Zoe. Refusing to allow Zoe to be harmed, the Doctor pretends to acquiesce to Vaughn's demands but uses the opportunity to escape with Jamie in a lift.

The Doctor sabotages the lift, stranding them between floors. They climb out of the top of the lift to escape, using an emergency exit, but Vaughn orders the facility locked down. They climb down a fire escape, then hide in a freight car, suspecting it might be the same train Zoe and Isobel were transported on. As Vaughn’s men begin to search the trains, the Doctor and Jamie are forced to hide, knowing they are running out of time.

Act 1

The Doctor and Jamie arrive at Vaughn's warehouse, confronting Packer about Zoe and Isobel's disappearance. Vaughn appears, feigning ignorance and claiming the women have already left, despite Jamie's insistence he saw them taken in crates. Vaughn invites the Doctor and Jamie to his factory, a move the Brigadier's UNIT forces track discreetly. At the factory, Vaughn's true intentions begin to surface as he expresses keen interest in the Doctor's advanced circuits and reveals Zoe's disruption of his computer systems. The Doctor and Jamie are introduced to Professor Watkins, who Vaughn coerces into developing a 'teaching machine' by holding his niece, Isobel, hostage. The Doctor, sensing Vaughn's dishonesty, attempts to dissuade Watkins from cooperating. During their investigation, the Doctor discovers a deep-space radio communication system hidden within the facility, confirming his suspicions that Vaughn's ambitions extend far beyond mere industrial control. This act establishes Vaughn's ruthless nature, his leverage over key individuals, and the escalating stakes as the Doctor uncovers the true scope of Vaughn's operations.

Act 2

Vaughn monitors the Doctor's conversations, learning about his extraterrestrial origins and the nature of the TARDIS. Despite receiving orders to destroy the Doctor from his unseen allies, Vaughn decides to defy them, intent on extracting the secrets of the Doctor's machine for himself. The Doctor, aware of the surveillance, resourcefully disables the hidden camera with a magnet, cutting off Vaughn's direct observation. This act of defiance forces Vaughn to escalate his tactics. Vaughn confronts the Doctor, revealing his knowledge of the Doctor's actions and directly threatening Zoe's safety as leverage to force the Doctor's cooperation. Faced with this ultimatum, the Doctor pretends to acquiesce to Vaughn's demands, agreeing to reveal information about his machine. However, this is a ruse; the Doctor seizes an opportunity to escape with Jamie into a lift. Once inside, the Doctor quickly sabotages the lift's circuits, stranding it between floors, thereby initiating their desperate escape from Vaughn's immediate grasp.

Act 3

Stranded in the sabotaged lift, the Doctor quickly identifies an emergency exit in the roof, allowing them to climb into the lift shaft. They begin a perilous ascent, racing against time as Packer and Vaughn work to reactivate the lift and seal their escape routes. Vaughn, realizing the Doctor's resourcefulness, orders a full lockdown of the facility. The Doctor and Jamie narrowly avoid being crushed as the lift is reactivated and sent upwards, reaching the rooftop just in time. From the roof, they spot a fire escape, providing a route to descend the building. They quickly make their way down, evading Vaughn's guards who are now on high alert. Seeking further concealment, they hide inside a freight wagon within the compound's railway sidings. Jamie speculates this might be the same train that transported Zoe and Isobel, a possibility that reignites their hope and purpose. As Vaughn's men begin a systematic search of all trains in the yard, the Doctor and Jamie are forced to hide, facing imminent discovery and an uncertain future.
