The Space Pirates Part 2

When space pirates destroy a vital beacon, General Hermack must enlist the help of a legendary, but unreliable, old space miner, Milo Clancey, to track down the culprits before they can cause further damage and steal valuable resources.

General Hermack and Major Warne investigate the destruction of Beacon Alpha Four, suspecting the work of space pirates. Their investigation leads them to Milo Clancey, an old, independent space miner operating in the same sector. Clancey claims to be hunting the pirates himself, having lost multiple ore shipments to them. Hermack is skeptical, suspecting Clancey may be involved with the pirates, especially after discovering his outdated equipment and lack of proper reporting. He allows Clancey to return to his ship, the LIZ 79, but has Warne follow him.

Meanwhile, the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe find themselves stranded on a fragment of Beacon Alpha Four after the explosion. They discover rockets attached to each fragment, indicating the pieces are being deliberately moved. The Doctor theorizes the beacon was constructed using magnetic fields and attempts to use the remaining equipment to reunite the sections, in hopes of getting back to the TARDIS, but his experiment goes awry, sending their fragment further into space.

Back on the V-Ship, Hermack's suspicions deepen. He believes Clancey is meeting with the pirates. Hermack makes contact with Madeleine Issigri who has argonite mines on the planet Lobos. She split from Clancey at one point and Hermack strongly suggests that Clancey has turned to piracy out of jealousy for her success and suspects him of also having had a hand in the death of her father, Dom Issigri.

Warne reports that Clancey is linking his ship with a section of Alpha Four. Convinced this is the evidence he needs, Hermack orders Warne to arrest Clancey. But behind Hermack's back, Madeleine looks pleased, it is suggested she played Hermack.

The episode ends with Clancey's arrest imminent and the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe drifting further away from rescue.

Act 1

General Hermack and Major Warne open the episode on the V-Ship's flight deck, struggling to track suspected space pirates due to jammed signals from the destroyed Beacon Alpha Four. Hermack expresses frustration with Penn's incompetence and the limitations of their pursuit, while Warne suggests the pirates must have a hidden base. Penn soon detects an unidentified rocket ship, LIZ 79, operating suspiciously close to the beacon's destruction site. Hermack contacts the ship, encountering Milo Clancey, an uncooperative, legendary old space miner. Concurrently, the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe regain consciousness on a fragment of Beacon Alpha Four, realizing they are stranded and the TARDIS is gone. Clancey is brought aboard the V-Ship, where he claims to be an independent miner hunting the argonite pirates himself, stating they have stolen five of his ore floaters over two years. He criticizes the Space Corps' inaction, but Hermack remains deeply skeptical of Clancey's story. Hermack believes Clancey is either in league with the pirates or is their mastermind, and decides to release him, instructing Warne to covertly follow LIZ 79 to gather definitive proof. This sets the stage for a direct pursuit based on Hermack's calculated suspicion.

Act 2

Major Warne launches a stealth Minnow to shadow Milo Clancey's LIZ 79, following Hermack's orders to gather evidence of Clancey's suspected piracy. Meanwhile, the Doctor, examining the beacon fragment, discovers auxiliary rockets attached to each piece, indicating a deliberate, controlled movement of the wreckage. He theorizes the beacon was constructed using magnetic fields and attempts to reactivate this system to draw the fragments back together, hoping to reach the TARDIS. Simultaneously, General Hermack lands on a planet to meet Madeleine Issigri, a powerful argonite mine owner. Hermack subtly probes Madeleine about her past partnership with Clancey, the unresolved death of her father, Dom Issigri, and her subsequent rise to galactic prominence in the mining industry, contrasting it with Clancey's presumed financial ruin. Hermack explicitly suggests that jealousy over Madeleine's success provides Clancey with a strong motive for turning to piracy. Back in space, the Doctor's ambitious magnetic field experiment goes catastrophically wrong; instead of drawing the beacon sections together, it propels their fragment further into the void, worsening their already precarious situation. Warne then reports that LIZ 79 is actively linking with a section of Beacon Alpha Four, providing Hermack with what he considers irrefutable proof of Clancey's direct involvement with the pirate operation.

Act 3

Armed with Warne's report of LIZ 79 linking with a beacon fragment, General Hermack, using Madeleine Issigri's audio board, issues a direct order to Warne: arrest Milo Clancey immediately. Hermack authorizes the use of Martian missiles if Clancey shows any resistance, underscoring the seriousness of the confrontation and his belief in Clancey's guilt. As Hermack gives the order, Madeleine Issigri's subtle look of satisfaction, observed behind his back, strongly implies her successful manipulation of the General, suggesting she deliberately fueled his suspicions against Clancey to achieve her own ends. Clancey's arrest becomes imminent as Warne confirms LIZ 79 is completing its link-up, rendering Clancey unable to make a sudden escape or resist effectively. Concurrently, the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe face a more dire and hopeless predicament. The Doctor's failed magnetic field experiment has propelled their beacon fragment even further into deep space, leaving them adrift, with dwindling oxygen and no immediate prospect of rescue. The episode concludes with Clancey facing an armed arrest, his fate uncertain, and the Doctor's group isolated and vulnerable, their lives hanging precariously in the vastness of space, a stark contrast to the V-Ship's controlled environment.
