When the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe stumble upon Milo Clancey, a suspected space pirate, they become entangled in his escape from General Hermack, leading them to a mining planet and deeper into a conflict with the Issigri Mining Corporation.
The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe find themselves aboard the spaceship LIZ 79 with Milo Clancey, an old space pirate fleeing General Hermack of the Space Corps. Initially captured by Clancey, they quickly realize he is their only hope of finding the TARDIS, which was lost when the beacon it was attached to broke apart. Clancey, wanted for piracy, is pursued relentlessly by Hermack, who suspects him of selling stolen argonite.
To evade capture, Clancey employs cunning tactics, including releasing copper needles to disrupt the pursuing spaceship's systems. He decides to hide on the planet Ta, the headquarters of the Issigri Mining Corporation, believing Hermack won't expect him to go there because of Clancey's history with Madeleine Issigri.
On Ta, Clancey lands in a deserted freighter dock within a maze of argonite tunnels. He instructs the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe to stay in the ship while he goes to repair the transmitter. Zoe, however, uses applied mathematics to calculate where the TARDIS might have landed, concluding it's somewhere nearby. Meanwhile, Caven, one of the pirates, receives orders to reroute sections of Alpha Four to Lobos, a dangerous mission that requires drawing the Space Corps away.
