The War Games Part 10
The Doctor, pursued by the Time Lords for his interference in the universe, faces trial for breaking their laws, while a War Lord manipulates different time zones for galactic domination, forcing the Doctor to confront his past and future.
In "The War Games - Episode Ten," the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe find themselves hunted by the Time Lords, after the Doctor's repeated violations of their policy of non-interference. Fleeing in the TARDIS, they attempt to evade capture, but the Time Lords' power proves inescapable as they are pulled back to the Doctor's home planet to face trial. The Doctor's initial reason for fleeing from his people was boredom of observation and not getting involved, which is quickly contrasted with how the trio is always knee deep in trouble. Jamie asks the Doctor why the time lords are bother by his interference. The doctor explains that he always tends to get involved. During thier travels the Tardis falls into the ocean as the Time Lords begin to break down its defenses, so the Doctor is forced to relocate the Tardis. Once they escape the water they land in a room filled with Sidrats.
Meanwhile, a War Lord orchestrates a series of war games across different time zones, abducting soldiers from various eras and forcing them to fight on alien planets in a bid for galactic conquest. The Time Lords intervene, deeming the War Lord's actions a gross violation of galactic laws; the survivors are returned to their correct times and locations. During the trial, the War Lord accuses the Doctor of colluding with his War Chief, who was also a Time Lord. However the Time Lords still find the War Lord guilty of all charges.
The Time Lords, in the forms of Time Lord 2 and Time Lord 3, bring Jamie and Zoe back to say goodbye to the Doctor. Jamie and Zoe are then sent back to their own, correct, timelines with their memories of traveling with the Doctor erased (with the exception of their first adventure). Jamie is returned to Culloden Moor, and Zoe is returned to the Wheel in Space.
The Time Lords acknowledge the Doctor's defence (that there is evil in the universe that must be fought) the time lords acknowledge the doctor's point and realize that he still has a large part to play in that battle. They decide to exile him to the 20th-century Earth, changing his appearance and stripping him of his knowledge of the TARDIS. The Doctor is forced to regenerate against his will, setting the stage for a new incarnation, forever changing his destiny. The episode concludes with the Doctor's forced regeneration, marking a significant turning point in the show's history as he is exiled to Earth, stripped of his familiar identity, and left to face an uncertain future.

The narrative beats that drive the story
The narrative opens with the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe under duress, struggling to operate the TARDIS against an unseen force field. The Doctor identifies the aggressors as the Time Lords, his own people, who pursue him for his repeated violations of their non-interference laws. He explains his initial flight stemmed from boredom with their purely observational existence, contrasting it with his active engagement in fighting evil across the galaxy. The Time Lords, however, relentlessly pursue them, first forcing the TARDIS into a deep-sea landing, then breaking down its defenses. Despite the Doctor's attempts to evade, the Time Lords compel the TARDIS to return to their home planet, where the trio is immediately apprehended. They are led into a grand Trial Chamber, where a War Lord is already undergoing judgment. The Time Lords accuse the War Lord of orchestrating vast 'war games' across time zones, abducting soldiers, and causing untold deaths in a tyrannical bid for galactic domination. During his defense, the War Lord attempts to deflect blame, claiming a Time Lord 'War Chief' and another Time Lord collaborated with him, specifically implicating the Doctor. The Time Lords swiftly dismiss this as fraud, find the War Lord guilty, and sentence him. In a desperate move, the War Lord's guards attempt to seize the Doctor and his companions, forcing them into the TARDIS. However, the Doctor, feigning compliance, uses the opportunity to lure the War Lord into a trap. The Time Lords intervene, activating a force field that traps the War Lord and his forces, subsequently dematerializing them from existence. This concludes the immediate external threat, but the Doctor's own impending trial looms.

With the War Lord's threat neutralized, the focus shifts entirely to the Doctor's own impending judgment. Jamie and Zoe, initially believing they are free, find themselves trapped by a force field, unable to leave the Time Lord's domain. The Doctor is formally brought before the Time Lords to face charges of repeatedly breaking their paramount law of non-interference. Far from denying the accusations, the Doctor defiantly admits to his actions, asserting his pride in actively fighting evil throughout the galaxy while the Time Lords merely observed. He presents a passionate defense, citing numerous instances where he confronted formidable threats like the Quarks, Yeti, Ice Warriors, Cybermen, and Daleks, highlighting the Time Lords' failure to use their immense powers to aid those in need. He challenges their neutrality, accusing them of hypocrisy. The Time Lords acknowledge the weight of his arguments, recognizing the "difficult issues" he raises, and adjourn to deliberate his fate. Meanwhile, Jamie and Zoe are informed they will be sent back to their own times and worlds. They plead to see the Doctor one last time, expressing their deep attachment. The Time Lords permit a brief, emotional farewell, initially separated by a force field, which is then lowered. The trio briefly contemplates escape, but the Doctor, understanding the Time Lords' power, knows it is futile. They are led to a SIDRAT, where the Doctor says a final, poignant goodbye to Jamie and Zoe. The Time Lords confirm Jamie and Zoe will be returned to their timelines just before they met the Doctor, their memories of their adventures with him erased, save for their very first encounter. The Doctor watches on a viewscreen as Zoe returns to the Wheel in Space, disoriented but safe, and Jamie reappears on Culloden Moor, immediately engaging in a skirmish with a Redcoat. Their lives resume, untouched by their travels, leaving the Doctor to face his destiny alone.

Following the poignant farewell to his companions, the Doctor stands alone before the Time Lords, awaiting their final judgment. The Time Lords acknowledge the validity of his defense, conceding that evil exists in the universe and that the Doctor still has a vital role to play in combating it. However, they do not grant him full freedom. Instead, they pronounce a severe sentence: exile to 20th-century Earth. This exile comes with two profound conditions: the secret of the TARDIS's operation will be stripped from him, preventing him from piloting it, and his physical appearance will be forcibly changed. The Doctor vehemently protests this sentence, arguing against being confined to a single "primitive planet" and a specific century, and expressing concern about his recognition on Earth. The Time Lords dismiss his objections, stating his appearance has changed before and will change again as part of the sentence. They offer him a brief, illusory opportunity to choose his new form, presenting him with a series of disparate, unappealing images. The Doctor, ever particular, rejects each option, finding them too old, too fat, too thin, or simply "ridiculous." His indecision and refusal to choose ultimately lead the Time Lords to take the decision for him. As the Doctor continues to protest, his face begins to distort and twist uncontrollably. He cries out in confusion and distress as multiple, disorienting images of his face spin around him, signaling the irreversible onset of his forced regeneration. He pleads with the Time Lords to stop, refusing to be treated in such a manner, but his pleas are ignored. His familiar face ultimately disappears, marking the end of his current incarnation and the beginning of an uncertain future in exile on Earth.
