Frontier in Space Part 6

The Doctor and his allies must prevent a war between Earth and Draconia while evading the Master, Daleks, and Ogrons, who seek to exploit the conflict for their own gain.

In 'Frontier in Space - Episode Six,' the Doctor, Jo Grant, and their companions become embroiled in a complex web of intergalactic politics and deception. The episode begins with Jo Grant, a prisoner of the Master, who is using his hypnotic abilities to manipulate her perceptions. The Master plans to use Jo to lure the Doctor into a trap, intending to hand him over to the Daleks, with whom he has formed an alliance.

The Doctor and his companions, including General Williams and the Prince of Draconia, work together to thwart the Master's plans. They embark on a mission to gather evidence of Ogron attacks on Earth and Draconian ships, which they hope will convince the governments of both planets to form an alliance against their common enemy.

However, the Master's plan involves using a homing device to lure the Doctor and his companions into a trap. The Doctor discovers that Jo has been fitted with a transmitter that leads them to the Ogron planet. There, they encounter the Daleks, who have allied with the Master to destroy both Earth and Draconia, paving the way for Dalek domination of the galaxy.

The Doctor and his companions must use all their resourcefulness and cunning to evade capture and thwart the Master's and the Daleks' plans. Jo plays a crucial role in helping the Doctor escape and in devising a plan to defeat their enemies.

In the climax of the episode, the Doctor uses a hypnosound device to trick the Ogrons and escape from their prison. He and Jo then use the TARDIS to escape, while the Doctor sends a message to the Time Lords using the TARDIS's telepathic circuits.

Act 1

The narrative opens with Jo Grant, held captive by the Master, who subjects her to intense hypnotic illusions. Jo's resilience frustrates the Master, who reveals his overarching plan: to ignite a devastating war between the Earth Empire and the Draconian Empire by orchestrating Ogron attacks on their respective cargo ships. His goal is to weaken both powers, paving the way for a greater, unseen force to seize control. Concurrently, on Earth, the President faces immense pressure from an incensed populace and politicians, like a vocal Congressman, who demand immediate military retaliation against Draconia for perceived aggressions. The Doctor, accompanied by General Williams and the Draconian Prince, arrives at the President's office, where the gravity of the situation becomes clear. They understand that only concrete proof of a third party's involvement—the Ogrons—can avert an all-out war. The Doctor discloses that he extracted the coordinates for the Ogron planet from the Master's ship's computer during his prior captivity. With this critical intelligence and the clock ticking, the Doctor, Williams, and the Prince resolve to embark on a perilous mission aboard Williams' personal scoutship. Their objective is to reach the Ogron planet, gather the necessary evidence, and expose the Master's insidious plot before the galaxy descends into irreversible conflict. This act meticulously establishes the primary antagonist's machinations, the dire stakes of the impending interstellar war, and the protagonists' urgent, dangerous quest for truth.

Act 2

Act Two begins with the Doctor, General Williams, and the Draconian Prince en route to the Ogron planet aboard the scoutship. Their journey is fraught with peril; they are pursued by Draconian ships, mistakenly believing them to be invaders, forcing the scoutship into a high-speed chase and requiring the Doctor to perform urgent, dangerous repairs to the ship's exterior drive outlet. Simultaneously, Jo Grant, still imprisoned in the Master's lair, demonstrates her resourcefulness by digging her way out of her cell with a soup spoon. She discovers a short-range radio transmitter and broadcasts the Ogron planet's coordinates, intending to alert Earth and Draconian forces to the Master's base. This act of defiance, however, plays directly into the Master's hands. He reveals to Jo that her broadcast was part of his elaborate trap, designed specifically to lure the Doctor to the Ogron planet. The Master activates a homing device, ensuring the Doctor will find his way directly into the ambush. Upon landing, the Doctor's party faces an Ogron ambush, though they are unexpectedly aided by a mysterious "monster" that frightens the Ogrons away. The Master then dramatically appears, not alone, but with the Daleks, revealing his true alliance and the ultimate architects of the galactic war. The Daleks assert their dominance, outlining their plan to allow Earth and Draconia to destroy each other before they sweep in to conquer the weakened galaxy. The Doctor, Williams, and the Prince are captured and imprisoned, joining Jo. This act escalates the conflict, reveals the true scale of the threat, and leaves the protagonists in a seemingly inescapable predicament.

Act 3

In Act Three, the imprisoned protagonists face their darkest hour, but the Doctor quickly devises a daring escape plan. He and Jo realize the Master's hypnosound device, previously used for illusions, can be re-calibrated. The Doctor modifies it, intending to use it to frighten the Ogrons. He outlines a strategy: once a diversion is created, General Williams and the Draconian Prince must escape in their repaired scoutship to relay the truth about the Dalek-Master alliance to their respective governments, urging a joint counter-attack on the Ogron base. The Doctor and Jo, meanwhile, will make their own escape via the TARDIS. With the plan set, the Doctor activates the modified hypnosound device, projecting the image of a terrifying Dalek. The Ogron guard, terrified, immediately obeys the "Dalek's" command to open the cell. Williams and the Prince seize their opportunity, bidding farewell to the Doctor and Jo as they make their escape. The Doctor and Jo then navigate the Master's lair, with Jo leading the way to the TARDIS. The Master, alerted to the escape, intercepts them. A tense confrontation ensues, during which the Doctor uses the hypnosound device on the Ogrons guarding the Master, causing them to panic and flee. In the ensuing chaos, the Master's gun discharges, grazing the Doctor's head and knocking him unconscious. Jo, believing him dead, quickly helps him to his feet. They manage to reach the TARDIS and dematerialize, narrowly escaping the Master and the Ogrons. Once safe within the TARDIS, the Doctor, despite his injury, immediately activates the ship's telepathic circuits, sending an urgent message to the Time Lords, signaling a plea for intervention and setting the stage for future developments beyond this episode's immediate resolution.
