Act 1

Solon discovers the Doctor has escaped his lab, unleashing a furious tirade against Condo and the Sisterhood, whom he suspects of aiding the Time Lord. He vows to retrieve the Doctor, emphasizing the unique suitability of his brain for Solon's sinister experiments. Meanwhile, the Doctor, having woken up bound and captured within the Sisterhood's Shrine, faces immediate execution. Maren, the High One, interrogates him, accusing him of being a Time Lord agent sent to steal their sacred Elixir of Life. The Doctor attempts to reason with Maren, denying the charges and highlighting the potential danger of the Sacred Flame's dying, even speculating on Morbius's continued existence. As the Sisterhood prepares the pyre, Solon dramatically interrupts the ritual, first pleading for the Doctor's life, then, in a chilling display of his true priorities, demanding only the Doctor's head for his experiments. Maren, disgusted, dismisses him. Sarah, who had been hiding nearby, seizes the opportunity to cut the Doctor free. During their frantic escape, a blinding flash from Maren's ring causes Sarah to lose her sight. Faced with Sarah's sudden and severe blindness, the Doctor, despite his deep distrust of Solon, determines that the deranged scientist is their only immediate hope for medical intervention, a desperate gamble driven by the urgent need to save his companion.

Act 2

The Doctor and a newly blinded Sarah navigate the treacherous terrain back to Solon's castle, where Solon feigns concern and offers hospitality, despite the Doctor's thinly veiled skepticism. The Doctor, prioritizing Sarah's well-being, demands Solon examine her eyes. Solon conducts a thorough examination in his lab, then subtly dismisses Sarah, sending her away with Condo. Alone with the Doctor, Solon delivers a grim diagnosis: Sarah's retinas are almost completely destroyed, leaving her permanently blind. However, he then offers a sliver of hope, revealing that only the Sisterhood's legendary Elixir of Life, known for its regenerative properties, could offer a faint, albeit improbable, chance of recovery. Despite the extreme danger and the Sisterhood's explicit threat of death, the Doctor immediately resolves to undertake the perilous mission of obtaining the Elixir from the Shrine to save Sarah. Solon, masking his true intentions with a facade of well-wishes, subtly encourages the Doctor's departure. The moment the Doctor leaves, Solon's manipulative nature resurfaces; he immediately begins drafting a cryptic letter and dispatches Condo to the Sisterhood, setting a new, deceitful plan in motion that leverages the Doctor's desperate quest. Concurrently, Sarah, left alone and disoriented in Solon's parlour, hears the chilling, disembodied voice of Morbius emanating from the cellar, a discovery that hints at the true horror lurking beneath Solon's castle and sets her on a path of her own investigation.
