The Horns of Nimon Part 4

As the Doctor and his companions navigate the planet Crinoth, they must stop the parasitic Nimon from destroying the planet and prevent a catastrophic chain reaction that could threaten the entire universe.

The Doctor, Romana, Seth, and Teka find themselves on the planet Crinoth, which has been devastated by the Nimons, parasitic creatures that feed on the planet's energy. The Nimons plan to use Crinoth as a stepping stone to their next victim, Skonnos. The Doctor and his companions work to prevent the Nimons from achieving their goal, while also dealing with the aftermath of Soldeed's betrayal and the activation of the nuclear furnace. As the situation becomes increasingly dire, the Doctor uses his ingenuity and the help of K9 to modify the controls and divert the space-time tunnel, ultimately sending the Nimons back into the middle of nowhere. The group manages to escape Crinoth, but not before witnessing the destruction of the planet.

Act 1

The narrative opens with Seth stunning Soldeed in the Nimon's laboratory, allowing the Doctor to retrieve the staff. The Doctor attempts to repair a critical circuit, expressing concern over the damage and the need for K9, who remains immobile in Soldeed's lab. Meanwhile, Romana emerges from the space capsule on Crinoth, a desolate landscape of silver tubes, and is immediately pursued by Nimons. She encounters Sezom, a haggard old man who saves her life by stunning the Nimons with a modified staff. Sezom reveals Crinoth's tragic fate, explaining how the Nimons, a parasitic race, destroyed his planet after he, blinded by promises of technology, allowed them to come. He describes their 'great journey of life' as a relentless cycle of consuming planets. Romana, realizing Skonnos is their next target, resolves to warn them. Sezom, burdened by guilt and nearing death, reveals he modified his staff with Jasonite to increase its power against the Nimons, a secret he shares with Romana. As more Nimons approach, Sezom creates a diversion, sacrificing himself to allow Romana to reach the capsule and attempt her escape, urging her to warn the universe. This act establishes the immediate peril on both Skonnos and Crinoth, introduces the devastating true nature of the Nimons, and highlights the personal cost of their invasion through Sezom's tragic story and sacrifice. The Doctor remains isolated, unaware of Romana's dire situation or the full scale of the Nimon threat.

Act 2

Romana's attempt to return to Skonnos takes a perilous turn when the Doctor's transmat, still malfunctioning, brings two Nimons to Skonnos instead of her, forcing him to seal the capsule and send them back. Romana then successfully arrives on Skonnos, only to find the Doctor cornered by Nimons. Simultaneously, K9, reactivated by Sorak in Soldeed's laboratory, asserts his independence and escapes. Seth, having been separated from Teka by a collapsing wall, arrives to aid the Doctor. Romana quickly instructs Seth to modify Soldeed's staff with the Jasonite she received from Sezom, enabling him to stun the Nimons. With the immediate threat contained, the Doctor tasks K9 with modifying the controls to divert the space-time tunnel, intending to send the Nimons 'back into the middle of nowhere.' The team's brief success is shattered when Soldeed, having escaped earlier, activates the nuclear furnace in the Nimon's larder, turning Crinoth into a critical bomb. Seth shoots Soldeed, who dies with a maniacal laugh, condemning them all. The furnace rapidly goes critical, trapping Teka and the other Anethans in suspended animation, and the Doctor, Romana, and Seth realize they are now on a planet about to explode, with no apparent way out. This act dramatically escalates the stakes, shifting from preventing an invasion to escaping planetary annihilation.

Act 3

With Soldeed dead and the nuclear furnace rapidly going critical, the Doctor, Romana, Seth, and K9 face the imminent destruction of Crinoth. The Doctor quickly frees Teka and the other Anethans from their suspended animation pods, urging everyone to escape the exploding complex. As they navigate the labyrinthine corridors, pursued by reawakened Nimons, K9's navigation system initially falters due to configuration changes. The Doctor encourages K9 to recompute a route, relying on his 'brilliant tracker dog' abilities. K9 eventually stops at an unassuming wall panel, declaring it the exit, despite the others' skepticism. The Doctor, after confirming K9's assessment that it is not a wall, realizes it is a clever illusion. They quickly pass through the hidden exit into the Skonnos Complex Entrance, where Sorak and the council are gathered. Seth announces Soldeed's death and Teka proudly proclaims Seth the hero who defeated the Nimons. The Doctor urgently warns everyone to take cover just as the entire complex explodes behind them. Safely inside the TARDIS, Romana and the Doctor observe Crinoth's distant explosion, marking the end of the Nimons. The Doctor reflects on the fate of Skonnos and the Anethans, having ensured they received a ship. He muses on Seth's future as a legendary hero, burdened by Teka's embellishments, concluding their adventure with a characteristic mix of wit and concern.
