Shada Part 4

The Doctor, believed to be dead, and his companions must stop Skagra, who has stolen the TARDIS and seeks to use the ancient prison planet Shada and the Law of Gallifrey for his mind control ambitions.

The story begins with Parsons and K9 materializing in the Brig, only to be teleported away. Meanwhile, Clare searches Professor Chronotis' rooms, discovering a hidden control panel and activating a machine that creates a shimmering light. Wilkin enters but finds the room transformed.

The Doctor, presumed dead, communicates with his ship, which serves Skagra. He reveals that he tricked the ship into thinking he was dead to gain control. Romana, captured by Skagra, is taken to his command ship. Skagra reveals his plan to use the Ancient Law of Gallifrey, a book that holds the power to imprison the most feared criminals, to achieve mind control.

The Doctor and Parsons navigate through the ship, trying to find a way to stop Skagra. The Doctor constructs a primitive dimensional stabilizer to shorten their journey. They eventually arrive at the FSAS Space Station, where they find evidence of advanced technology and strange occurrences.

As Skagra progresses with his plan, Romana learns more about his intentions and the significance of the book. The Doctor and Parsons work to thwart Skagra's ambitions, ultimately leading to a confrontation with the powerful criminal Salyavin on Shada.

Act 1

The narrative opens with Parsons and K9's sudden, unexplained teleportation from the Brig, a mysterious event that immediately establishes an unknown force at play and removes them from their previous context. Concurrently, Clare's exploration of Professor Chronotis's rooms leads her to a hidden control panel, which, upon activation, transforms the room into a shimmering anomaly, suggesting a powerful, ancient technology at work. Parsons and K9 materialize on Skagra's ship, where the Doctor, having feigned his own death to manipulate the ship's systems, reveals his ingenious deception. This strategic move allows him temporary control but also highlights his precarious situation and cunning intellect. The Doctor discovers Romana's capture and the theft of the TARDIS, confirming Skagra's direct involvement and escalating the personal stakes for his companions. Romana, now a prisoner on Skagra's command ship, learns of his grandiose ambitions for universal mind control, a plan he intends to execute using the 'Ancient Law of Gallifrey.' The introduction of the Krarg reinforces the alien threat and Skagra's growing, manufactured power. This initial act effectively establishes the central conflict, introduces key players, and sets the Doctor on an urgent path to rescue Romana and thwart Skagra's dangerous scheme.

Act 2

With Romana captured and the TARDIS stolen, the Doctor attempts to ascertain Skagra's location from the ship, but its programmed loyalty prevents a direct answer. Meanwhile, Skagra elaborates on his chilling philosophy to Romana, articulating his desire to impose order on a chaotic universe by creating 'a new person' through mind control, thereby justifying his ruthless methods. He demonstrates this by activating a machine that generates a new Krarg, visibly escalating the threat of his expanding army. The Doctor, undeterred by the ship's initial inability to provide Skagra's destination, deduces that Skagra must be returning to his point of origin, 'Square One.' Faced with a journey estimated to take nearly three months, the Doctor exhibits remarkable ingenuity. He rapidly reconfigures the ship's main drive, transforming it into a 'primitive dimensional stabiliser.' This engineering feat dramatically shortens their travel time to mere minutes, demonstrating his resourcefulness and accelerating the pursuit. Concurrently, Chronotis, having been revived by Clare's actions, reveals to her that the book is the 'key to Shada,' the Time Lords' ancient prison planet, underscoring its immense danger. Romana also learns more about the book's power to imprison feared criminals. This act intensifies the conflict by revealing more of Skagra's ideology and power, while simultaneously showcasing the Doctor's ability to overcome significant obstacles, setting the stage for their impending confrontation.

Act 3

As the Doctor rapidly closes the distance to Skagra, a Krarg appears on his ship, confronting him and Parsons. K9's defensive laser fire highlights the immediate danger posed by Skagra's forces. Concurrently, Skagra, now within the TARDIS, deciphers the ancient code within the 'Ancient Law of Gallifrey,' realizing that manipulating the book's pages within the TARDIS's time field will transport him to Shada. This breakthrough grants him the means to execute his ultimate plan. The Doctor's ship materializes within the shuttle bay of the FSAS Space Station, a location now dark, dirty, and under a strict quarantine. Exploring the station, the Doctor and Parsons discover the five men from the story's beginning, transformed into hairy, long-nailed, mutated figures, revealing the horrific consequences of Skagra's experiments and the true nature of his influence. With the code broken and his destination confirmed, Skagra prepares his command ship for entry into Shada, explicitly naming Salyavin, 'one of the greatest and most powerful criminals in all history,' as his target. This act culminates in the convergence of the Doctor's pursuit, Skagra's successful plan, and the revelation of the true threat awaiting them on Shada, setting the stage for the story's ultimate confrontation.
