Full Circle Part 3

The Doctor navigates a complex web of alien politics and ethics when he encounters a group of humans preparing to leave their planet, only to discover their true intentions and the secrets they keep.

The Doctor, along with his companions Romana and Adric, find themselves on the planet Alzarius, where they encounter the crew of the Starliner, a massive generation ship. The crew is preparing for Embarkation, a journey back to their home planet of Terradon. However, the Doctor soon discovers that the crew's preparations are shrouded in secrecy and that they are hiding a dark secret.

The Doctor's investigation leads him to a science unit where experiments are being conducted on a marsh creature. He also meets Login, a Decider who is part of the crew's leadership. As the Doctor digs deeper, he uncovers a sinister plot involving the manipulation of the marsh creatures and the true purpose of the Starliner.

The Doctor's actions inadvertently lead to the marsh creature's escape, which results in chaos and destruction. The Deciders, who are in charge of the Starliner, are forced to confront their own actions and motivations.

Throughout his journey, the Doctor forms alliances with some of the crew members, including Login, who begins to question the true nature of their mission. Ultimately, the Doctor exposes the Deciders' secret: that they have been unable to pilot the Starliner for centuries due to a lack of knowledge about its operations.

The Doctor's presence on the planet has significant consequences, leading to a confrontation between the crew and the marsh creatures. The Doctor's actions also lead to a deeper understanding of the planet's ecosystem and the secrets it holds.

Act 1

The Doctor arrives in the Starliner's science unit, immediately confronting Dexeter about his ethically questionable experiments on a sedated marsh child. The Doctor observes Dexeter taking tissue samples and questions the true purpose of the crew's relentless "Embarkation" preparations for a return to Terradon. Dexeter dismisses the Doctor's concerns, citing manuals and the supposed aggression of marsh creatures, despite the Doctor's personal experience. Meanwhile, the Doctor's companions, Romana and Adric, along with two other children, Tylos and Keara, are trapped within the TARDIS, which has materialized elsewhere on the Starliner, surrounded by giant crab spiders and aggressive marshmen. Login, a Decider, enters the science unit, intrigued by the Doctor's unauthorized entry into the Starliner. The Doctor, seeking his TARDIS, makes a deal with Login: help find Login's daughter, Keara, in exchange for assistance locating his ship. The TARDIS materializes in the Starliner reception, revealing Keara, Tylos, and Varsh, who are promptly arrested by security. Adric emerges, informing the Doctor that Romana remains behind in a cave, afflicted by the spiders. The Doctor and Adric re-enter the TARDIS, attempting a risky reverse trip to rescue Romana. They find Romana in a cave, but she is disoriented and asks, "Who are you?", indicating a significant, debilitating effect from the spider bites. The Doctor brings her back to the Starliner, where she falls into a coma, prompting the Doctor to investigate the psychochemical nature of the spider venom.

Act 2

With Romana in a coma, the Doctor shifts his focus to understanding the psychochemical effects of the spider venom, intending to examine spider tissue in the science unit. Concurrently, the arrested Outlers—Keara, Tylos, and Varsh—await judgment from the Deciders in the Great Book Room, fearing severe punishment for their perceived betrayal of the Starliner's mission. Login, now aware of his daughter's involvement, navigates the Deciders' conference regarding Dexeter's controversial experiments on the marsh creatures. Despite initial reservations, the Deciders, including Login, ultimately grant Dexeter permission to proceed with his surgical examination, emphasizing secrecy and supervision. In a subsequent meeting, the Deciders confront the Outlers, reiterating the sacred vow to repair the Starliner and return to Terradon. Login advocates for leniency, leading to the Outlers being allowed to rejoin the Starliner's endless preparations without formal punishment. The Doctor and Adric return to the Starliner, just as Dexeter begins his invasive surgery on the marsh child. The Doctor bursts into the Great Book Room, witnessing the procedure on screen and vehemently condemning it as "cold-blooded murder." Simultaneously, Romana screams in her room, her skin showing brightly colored veins, mirroring the marsh child's pain. The marsh child, struggling against its restraints, breaks free, strangles Dexeter, and destroys the science unit before dying in an explosion. The Doctor confronts the Deciders, accusing them of allowing this tragedy. He then exposes the "fraud of perpetual movement," revealing a hidden control panel that demonstrates the Starliner's readiness for immediate departure. Login, shocked, demands answers. Nefred, the First Decider, and Garif then reveal the Starliner's ultimate, centuries-old secret: no one knows how to pilot the ship.

Act 3

Following the shocking revelation that no one on the Starliner knows how to pilot the ship, the narrative shifts to the immediate consequences of this centuries-old secret. The former Outlers, including Keara and Varsh, are seen back at their assigned "maintenance" tasks, replacing units and following instruction manuals, their work now imbued with a profound sense of futility given the ship's true predicament. The Doctor, in the science unit, begins a meticulous dissection of the dead spider, seeking further clues. Login joins him, providing critical information about "Mistfall"—a cyclical cooling process that occurs every fifty years when another planet obscures Alzarius's sun. The Doctor makes crucial connections between the high nitrogen content in the spider cells and the environmental changes during Mistfall, realizing the need for additional tissue samples from Dexeter and the marsh child to fully understand the planet's ecosystem and the creatures' adaptations. Just as the Doctor is on the verge of a breakthrough, Adric bursts in with alarming news: Romana has vanished from her room. The Doctor immediately deduces that marshmen have abducted her, recognizing the disarray in her room as evidence. This sudden disappearance creates a new, urgent crisis, shifting the Doctor's immediate focus from the Starliner's systemic problems to the immediate threat to his companion, setting the stage for a direct confrontation with the marsh creatures and a deeper exploration of their motivations.
