Terminus Part 4

The Doctor and his companions must stop Terminus's deadly departure sequence and free the space station from Company control, while Nyssa discovers the true nature of the Lazar disease cure.

The Doctor and his companions find themselves on Terminus, a space station that's actually a front for a sinister operation to 'cure' those infected with Lazar disease through brutal radiation exposure. As they navigate the station, they uncover the truth behind the 'cure' and the true purpose of Terminus. The Doctor works to stop the station's impending departure sequence while Nyssa, having undergone the 'cure', becomes determined to reform Terminus into a genuine medical facility. The narrative weaves together elements of suspense, rebellion, and personal growth as the characters confront the harsh realities of Terminus and the Company that controls it. Ultimately, the Doctor succeeds in halting the departure sequence and Nyssa decides to stay behind to help the Vanir prisoners gain independence from the Company by replicating the Hydromel they need to survive, marking a significant shift in the power dynamics on Terminus.

Act 1

The act plunges immediately into the multiple crises unfolding across Terminus. The Doctor and Kari are on the Bridge, desperately attempting to stop the station's impending departure sequence, a task complicated by the computer's uncontrollable nature and the physical difficulty of moving the control handle. Simultaneously, in the Engine Room, Valgard and Olvir engage in a struggle, during which Nyssa is violently abducted by the Garm, a mysterious creature central to the station's 'cure' process. This event leaves Olvir distraught and Nyssa's fate uncertain. Below the space liner floor plates, Tegan and Turlough face their own predicament, trapped and trying to re-materialize the TARDIS doorway, a task that proves frustratingly difficult. A critical turning point occurs when Valgard, after being defeated by Olvir, manipulates him with information about the station's radiation dangers and the Vanir's dependency on Hydromel, before seizing a gun and escaping. Meanwhile, the Tannoy system announces the escalating departure sequence, prompting Tegan to take desperate action. She manages to reach the Space Liner Bridge and, through sheer force of will, strikes the console, triggering an emergency launch abort. This provides a temporary reprieve from one immediate disaster, but the underlying threats remain. The act concludes with Nyssa waking up, seemingly cured, while the malevolent Guardian continues to exert influence over Turlough, hinting at deeper, unresolved conflicts. The fragmented efforts of the companions and the introduction of Valgard's duplicity establish the complex and perilous environment of Terminus.

Act 2

This act marks a significant shift as the characters begin to unravel the true nature of Terminus and its operations, moving from reactive survival to proactive problem-solving. Olvir, now pursuing Nyssa, confronts the Garm, who reveals that its seemingly brutal actions are intended to draw out the Lazar disease, with most subjects surviving the process. This revelation provides the first glimpse into the Garm's complex role. Crucially, Nyssa, having experienced the 'cure' firsthand, emerges with a profound and urgent understanding: the treatment is a crude, uncontrolled exposure to massive doses of radiation, effectively trading one killer for another by inducing radiation-related diseases. She expresses a fierce determination to reform Terminus into a genuine, controlled medical facility, highlighting her evolving character and new mission. Concurrently, the Doctor and Kari, realizing the immense strength required to reverse the departure sequence, deduce that only the Garm possesses the physical power. They strategically summon the creature to the bridge, convincing it that its cooperation is essential to prevent the "end of the universe." As Terminus violently shakes, the Garm, with immense effort and under the Doctor's guidance, forces the red handle back to its starting position, successfully halting the departure sequence. The Doctor then decisively destroys the Garm's signal box, symbolically freeing the creature from its servitude and Company control. This act solidifies Nyssa's new purpose and demonstrates the Doctor's ability to leverage unexpected alliances, setting the stage for the final confrontation and the potential transformation of Terminus.

Act 3

The final act brings together the various narrative threads, culminating in the resolution of the Terminus crisis and a significant character departure. Valgard, still seeking to secure his own survival, confronts the Doctor and Kari with a gun, but Nyssa and Olvir intervene, disarming him. Nyssa then passionately advocates for the transformation of Terminus into a proper hospital, revealing her own cure as proof of concept and proposing the synthesis of Hydromel to free the Vanir from Company control. The Doctor, Nyssa, Kari, and Olvir proceed to disable the engine control lines and begin the Hydromel synthesis, effectively severing Terminus's operational capacity and the Company's hold. Eirak's attempt to reassert control is met by Valgard, Sigurd, and Bor, who now stand united with the Doctor, signaling a new, independent future for the Vanir. Tegan reunites with the Doctor, but the emotional core of the act lies in Nyssa's decision to remain on Terminus, dedicating her skills to its reformation and the Vanir's liberation, a choice the Doctor ultimately respects. The narrative concludes with Nyssa's heartfelt farewell, while a lingering threat from the Guardian to Turlough foreshadows future conflict, leaving a sense of both triumph and unresolved danger.
