The narrative beats that drive the story
The narrative opens with chaos as Turlough, disregarding safety protocols, forcibly opens Airlock One, allowing the deadly Myrka to breach the Sea Base. This impulsive act, driven by a desire to escape the immediate threat, inadvertently unleashes a greater danger upon the human crew. The Myrka, a creature seemingly impervious to conventional weaponry, immediately demonstrates its destructive power by incapacitating a guard and jamming the bulkhead door, creating a pathway into the base's interior. The Doctor, having witnessed the Myrka's temporary blindness from an earlier encounter, uses a weapon's ammunition pack to temporarily blind the creature again, allowing him and Tegan to escape the immediate vicinity. Meanwhile, the Silurian forces, observing from their base, command the Myrka to advance towards its strategic objective: the bridge. Commander Vorshak, alerted to the creature's penetration, mobilizes his forces, but the Doctor quickly asserts the futility of their standard weapons against the Myrka's defenses. Despite Vorshak's initial hostility and distrust, the Doctor offers a potential solution, securing the reluctant assistance of Preston. Concurrently, the Sea Devils launch a coordinated assault on Airlock Five, overwhelming the human defenders and forcing them into retreat. Turlough, witnessing the escalating conflict, volunteers to assist in the defense of this critical bulkhead, while the Doctor and Preston prepare to implement the Doctor's unconventional strategy against the Myrka. The act concludes with the Myrka still an active, advancing threat, and the base under a two-pronged attack from both the creature and the invading alien forces, establishing a desperate situation for the human crew.

With the Myrka still on the loose and the Sea Devils launching a full-scale invasion, the Doctor and Preston move to implement a more permanent solution to the creature. The Doctor reveals his theory that the Myrka, a creature from the deepest, darkest oceans, will be highly susceptible to ultraviolet radiation, a weakness exploited by its Silurian manipulators. As they prepare a specialized UV converter, the underlying human treachery within the base begins to surface. Doctor Solow, in league with Nilson, discusses their escape plan, taking Maddox's critical conditioning disc with her. This disc, intended for the base's systems, is part of a larger, insidious plot. Tragically, Solow encounters the Myrka en route to her escape pod and is killed, leaving the disc to be discovered by guards. This discovery raises immediate suspicion for Vorshak. Meanwhile, the Doctor successfully deploys the UV converter, testing its efficacy. As the Myrka approaches the trap, the Doctor activates the device, bathing the creature in intense ultraviolet light. The Myrka, unable to withstand the assault, collapses and dies, eliminating the immediate internal threat. However, this victory is short-lived. The Silurians, informed of the Myrka's destruction, swiftly adapt their strategy, diverting their warriors to directly assault the bridge, recognizing the increased cunning of the "ape primitives." The act concludes with the Myrka neutralized, but the external alien threat now focused directly on the base's command center, and the internal human betrayal poised to fully unravel.

The final act plunges the Sea Base into utter chaos as the human defenses crumble under the combined pressure of the alien invasion and internal betrayal. Commander Vorshak confronts Nilson about the discovered conditioning disc and finds Maddox actively sabotaging the base's computers under Nilson's control. Nilson, revealing himself as an agent for an opposing human power bloc, seizes control of the bridge at gunpoint, exposing his treacherous plot to destroy the entire base, including the Silurians, Sea Devils, and all remaining personnel, once he escapes in an escape pod. He arrogantly dismisses the Doctor's warnings about the Silurians' advanced technology, believing his sabotage of the proton missiles is foolproof. Maddox, horrified by his actions and the murder of Karina, attempts to retaliate against Nilson but is swiftly killed by Nilson's remote control. In the ensuing struggle, Nilson takes Tegan hostage, using her as a shield to facilitate his escape. Concurrently, the Sea Devils overwhelm the remaining human resistance, breaching the bridge perimeter and trapping Bulic and Turlough between two groups of invaders. Vorshak receives grim news that Bulic and Turlough are likely dead or captured, signifying the near-total collapse of the human defense. With the base falling and Tegan's life in immediate peril, the Doctor, now isolated, resolves to pursue Nilson, while Turlough and Bulic, trapped in the crew barracks, desperately search for the TARDIS as their only hope of survival. The act concludes with the Sea Base on the brink of falling to the Silurians and Sea Devils, the human command structure shattered, and the protagonists scattered and facing dire odds.
