Time and the Rani Part 4

The Doctor and Mel must stop the Rani from using a brain and a Time Lord's technology to create a time manipulator that will allow her to control and change the course of evolution on Lakertya and potentially the entire universe.

The Rani, a renegade Time Lord, has created a machine that can control time using the brain of a Time Lord and a device called the Loyhargil. She plans to use this machine to change the course of evolution on Lakertya, a planet inhabited by a peaceful species, and potentially the entire universe. The Doctor and his companion Mel arrive on the planet and team up with a group of Lakertyan rebels to stop the Rani. They discover that the Rani has kidnapped several geniuses from different time periods and is using them to help her complete her machine. The Doctor and Mel must navigate the complexities of the machine and the Rani's plans, while also trying to free the kidnapped geniuses and prevent the Rani from carrying out her destructive goals. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including the Rani's henchmen, Urak and Ikona, and a group of giant bats. The Doctor and Mel ultimately succeed in stopping the Rani, but not before she escapes in her TARDIS.

The Doctor and Mel escape the Brain Chamber, encountering Urak, whom Mel incapacitates with a net cannon. They meet Ikona, who reports the Lakertyans' helplessness due to the anklets. The Doctor, Mel, and Ikona collaborate to disarm the exploding anklets. The Doctor devises a bypass circuit, and Mel, using Ikona's fiber optic filaments, successfully disarms Faroon's anklet. The Doctor confronts her from a rock slope, falsely claiming he has aborted the launch and that the Lakertyans are attacking. Enraged, the Rani attempts to detonate all remaining Lakertyan anklets, but the Doctor's earlier intervention has disarmed them, rendering her act of retribution futile. Inside the Brain Chamber, Beyus detonates the explosives he placed around the central Brain, destroying it and sacrificing himself in a massive explosion that also obliterates the chamber. Simultaneously, the rocket launches. The Doctor reassures Mel that the delay caused by his actions ensures the rocket will miss the asteroid, preventing the cosmic catastrophe. He crosses his fingers, confirming his uncertainty, but the rocket indeed sails harmlessly past the spinning asteroid. The Rani, witnessing the failure of her plan, flees into her TARDIS, which dematerializes. However, her escape is short-lived; she finds herself trapped in her TARDIS console room, surrounded by upside-down Tetraps, who intend to exploit her "incredible brain" for their own needs, a fitting poetic justice. Back on Lakertya, the Doctor guides the rescued geniuses into his TARDIS, promising to return them to their proper timelines. He then shares a poignant farewell with Faroon and Ikona, reflecting on Beyus's sacrifice.
