Paradise Towers Part 1

In the dilapidated Paradise Towers, the Doctor and Mel navigate a complex web of youth gangs, corrupt caretakers, and sinister robotic cleaners, all while searching for a fabled swimming pool and unraveling the dark secrets of the tower's troubled past.

The Doctor and Mel arrive at Paradise Towers, a once-idealistic housing complex now plagued by decay and social unrest. They soon discover that the towers are home to various youth gangs, including the Red Kangs, Blue Kangs, and Yellow Kangs, each with their own distinct culture and territory. The caretakers, responsible for maintaining order, seem more focused on suppressing the gangs than ensuring the well-being of the residents. As the Doctor and Mel explore, they uncover a dark history of violence and oppression, including the systematic elimination of the Yellow Kangs. The duo's search for a swimming pool becomes a backdrop for their investigation into the towers' problems. Along the way, they encounter the Rezzies, a group of older residents who offer Mel refuge and insight into the towers' troubled past. As tensions escalate, the Doctor and Mel must navigate the complex social dynamics and confront the forces of oppression in Paradise Towers.

Act 1

The TARDIS materializes at Paradise Towers, a once-acclaimed architectural marvel now a decaying, rubbish-strewn labyrinth. Mel, initially excited by scanner images of a pristine swimming pool, confronts the grim reality of graffiti-covered walls and lurking dangers, evidenced by a young woman fleeing unseen pursuers. The Doctor, ever curious, immediately begins investigating the strange environment, picking up circuit boards and noting cryptic wall stencils. Their exploration is abruptly interrupted by a crossbow bolt, signaling the immediate peril of the Towers. They soon encounter the Red Kangs, a fierce all-female gang who operate under strict rules and claim their color is 'best.' The Kangs reveal the existence of other color factions, including the Blue Kangs and the almost entirely 'unalive' Yellow Kangs, a detail the Doctor finds disturbing. A rigid Caretaker, 345-12, and his authoritarian Chief are introduced, highlighting the Towers' oppressive regime. A sinister Robotic Cleaner, previously hinted at by the Doctor's observations, is shown to 'clean up' the last Yellow Kang, confirming its deadly purpose. The Red Kangs capture the Doctor and Mel, intending to take them to their hideout. However, a Caretaker raid intervenes, leading to the protagonists' separation. The Doctor is apprehended by a Deputy Caretaker, while Mel escapes the Kangs and finds unexpected refuge with two eccentric elderly residents, Tilda and Tabby, known as the Rezzies. This act establishes the core conflict, introduces key factions, and sets the Doctor and Mel on divergent, perilous paths.

Act 2

Separated from the Doctor, Mel accepts the peculiar hospitality of Tilda and Tabby, the Rezzies. They offer her tea and cakes, while subtly attempting to 'fatten her up' and dissuade her from leaving, revealing a strange, possessive nature. Through their fragmented recollections, Mel gleans details about Paradise Towers' past, including its 'Great Architect' and a forgotten war. Meanwhile, the Doctor, under the Deputy Caretaker's custody, continues his investigation. He observes a wall scrawl depicting a Kang being attacked by a clawed machine, which the Deputy dismisses as 'silly pictures.' However, a Robotic Cleaner soon appears, confirming the Doctor's suspicions about its dangerous nature and forcing both him and the Deputy Caretaker to flee for their lives, eventually hiding in a non-functional lift. Back with the Rezzies, a dramatic entrance by Pex, a self-proclaimed hero who 'puts the world of Paradise Towers to rights,' interrupts the Rezzies' attempts to keep Mel. Mel, determined to find the Doctor and the swimming pool, rejects the Rezzies' persistent invitations to stay. Pex, despite Mel's initial reluctance, insists on accompanying her as a guide. Simultaneously, the Chief Caretaker monitors the Doctor's movements on a screen, indicating the Doctor's presence is now a recognized anomaly within the Towers' system. This act deepens the mystery surrounding the Towers, introduces a new, enigmatic character in Pex, and brings the protagonists closer to understanding the true nature of the threats they face.

Act 3

Mel and Pex embark on their journey through the treacherous corridors of Paradise Towers, with Pex asserting his role as Mel's self-appointed protector and guide. Mel, though skeptical of Pex's theatrical pronouncements, accepts his assistance, recognizing the need for someone familiar with the labyrinthine complex. Their path soon leads them to a communal area where the Blue Kangs are engaged in a solemn ritual. They have constructed a pyramid adorned with a yellow shift, placing their crossbows at its base. The Blue Kangs chant a mournful tribute: 'Hail the Kang. Hail the unalive Kang. Yellow of colour, but brave and bold as a Kang should be.' This ritual directly addresses the fate of the Yellow Kangs, a mystery first hinted at by the Red Kangs and confirmed by the Robotic Cleaner's actions. The chant serves as a powerful and somber reminder of the violence that has swept through Paradise Towers, bringing the central mystery of the Yellow Kangs' demise to the forefront for Mel and Pex. This encounter signifies a shift in Mel's immediate objective, as she and Pex are now drawn directly into the ongoing conflict between the Kang factions and the broader oppressive forces within the Towers, setting the stage for further investigation and potential confrontation in the subsequent parts of the narrative. The act concludes with Mel questioning Pex about the events unfolding in Paradise Towers, signaling her renewed determination to uncover the truth.
