The Doctor slips from the ladder mid-flight

The external access ladder, bolted to the hull outside the brig, becomes the Doctor’s only purchase before the engines disrupt the station’s balance. When their thrust throws the ship into vibration, the ladder’s shaking grip fails and the Doctor loses contact, catapulted into the void.

The reinforced rubber air hose, previously coiled around the Doctor’s wrist as his lifeline inside the brig, is abruptly torn free when he loses grip on the ladder. He severs the coupling, then turns its escaping high-pressure oxygen into a controlled jet, thrusting himself back toward the ship’s hull in a desperate improvisation.

The Police Spaceship’s hull presents a seamless metal plain to the Doctor’s flailing boots, its rivets cold guardians against the void. It is both sanctuary and metric of time—each second counts as the Doctor uses his depleted air jet to crawl back toward its promise of salvation.

The void receives the Doctor with absolute indifference as he drifts, weightless and untethered, where up and down collapse into endless black. The distance to the hull stretches agonizingly, punctuated only by the faint glow of floodlights that define a harder silhouette against the infinite cold.

The brig serves as the Doctor’s captor’s coffer during this moment—its windowless walls press inward as engines ignite beyond them, broadcasting violent motion through every bulkhead. Fluorescent lights flicker, pipes sweat condensation, and the sudden quake dislodges the Doctor from his only hold on the ladder outside.
