Invasion
The Doctor and his companions must help the Menoptra fight back against the Animus, a parasitic alien intelligence controlling the Zarbi, to free the planet Vortis from its oppressive web and restore peace.
On the desolate planet Vortis, Barbara, separated from the Doctor and her companions, finds refuge in a hidden Temple of Light with Prapillus and other Menoptra, insect-like beings whose society has been ravaged by the Animus. They struggle to mount an attack against the Animus, a mysterious intelligence residing at the center of a web that has ensnared the planet. The Menoptra's spearhead attack has failed, leaving them with few warriors and a desperate need for a new strategy.
Meanwhile, within the Carsinome, the Doctor and Vicki awaken, discovering that their control collars are no longer effective. The Doctor, using his ring, manages to control a Zarbi, ant-like creatures enslaved by the Animus, and they escape, intent on reuniting with the Menoptra and finding a way to defeat the Animus. Ian and Vrestin, trapped in the Optera tunnels, seek help from the Optera but encounter acid pools.
Back at the Temple of Light, the Menoptra are reluctant to trust the Doctor, and Barbara, who urges them to rely on him. Hilio, a Menoptra spearhead leader, offers to attack directly to destroy the Animus and its web. The Doctor and Vicki arrive, aided by the tame Zarbi. The Doctor proposes a mock attack to draw the Zarbi away from the Carsinome, while he and Vicki infiltrate the center to confront the Animus directly. He receives an Isop-tope, a device designed to destroy the Animus, from the Menoptra. Prapillus borrows the Doctor’s ring so that the Menoptra can control their tame Zarbi during the mock attack.
As Barbara prepares the mock attack, the Doctor and Vicki return to the Carsinome. Back in the tunnels, the Optera guide Ian and Vrestin closer to the Animus when they're suddenly trapped. The success of the mission hangs in the balance as the Doctor, his companions, and the Menoptra fight for the freedom of Vortis and the destruction of the Animus.

Barbara and Hrostar narrowly escape a Zarbi ambush on the Plateau, finding refuge in the hidden Temple of Light. Here, they encounter Prapillus and other surviving Menoptra, whose morale is shattered after their spearhead attack failed. Spearhead Leader Hilio arrives, initially distrusting Barbara, highlighting the Menoptra's desperation and their lack of a unified strategy. Prapillus delivers a poignant speech, emphasizing the need for the Menoptra to adapt and trust Barbara's guidance to survive without their wings. This leads to a collective decision to attack the Animus using the Isop-tope, a device designed by their wise men. Concurrently, the Doctor and Vicki, realizing their control collars are defunct, ingeniously escape the Carsinome by taming a Zarbi with the Doctor's ring, setting out to find the Menoptra. This act focuses on the strategic consolidation of forces and the finalization of the plan to confront the Animus, following the crucial reunion of the Doctor, Vicki, and Barbara with the Menoptra. The Doctor reviews the Menoptra's proposed mock attack, quickly deducing the Animus's power source from Vortis's magnetic pole. He refines the strategy, proposing a two-pronged assault: Barbara will lead a diversionary mock attack to draw the Zarbi away, while he and Vicki will use the Isop-tope to infiltrate the Carsinome's center and destroy the Animus directly. Initial resistance from Hilio, who is reluctant to entrust the vital Isop-tope to a stranger, is overcome by Prapillus's appeal to trust the Doctor. The Doctor then lends his invaluable control ring to Prapillus, enabling the Menoptra to utilize the tame Zarbi, Zombo, in their diversionary attack. Simultaneously, Ian, Vrestin, and Hetra continue their perilous journey through the tunnels, pushing closer to the Animus's core despite the dangers. The act culminates with the Doctor and Vicki re-entering the Carsinome, the Isop-tope in hand, as Barbara and Prapillus finalize preparations for the mock attack, poised to execute their coordinated strike against the Animus.
