The Doctor, Sara, and Steven, having stolen a Dalek pursuit ship to escape the planet Mira, must evade the Daleks' pursuit while creating a convincing taranium core replica to deceive their relentless foes and thwart their sinister plans.

Escaping the clutches of the Daleks on the planet Mira by stealing their pursuit ship, the Doctor, along with his companions Sara and Steven, find themselves in a desperate race against time and technology. Their immediate goal is to replicate the stolen taranium core, a crucial component in the Daleks' master plan, in order to mislead their pursuers. The Daleks, led by the menacing Black Dalek and the treacherous Mavic Chen, are determined to retrieve the core and punish the Doctor for his defiance.

As the Doctor focuses on the intricate task of replicating the taranium, Steven attempts a shortcut, using the ship's G-force to activate the fake taranium, resulting in him being caught within a force field. The ship, however, unexpectedly changes course, revealed to be under Dalek influence and being drawn towards the planet Kembel. Steven, with characteristic impulsiveness, destroys the auxiliary control unit responsible for the diversion, briefly regaining their independent trajectory. This reprieve is short-lived as the Daleks activate a powerful magnetized beam, forcibly pulling the ship back towards Kembel. As the Doctor and Sara diligently work to replicate the taranium, Steven, disregarding the Doctor's warnings about its danger and primitiveness, decides to experiment with using G-force to energize the fake core. His perilous attempt results in him collapsing, encased within a personal force field, but miraculously, the fake taranium begins to glow, successfully activated. Meanwhile, the Dalek ship enters Kembel's atmosphere. At the Dalek Control Centre, the Black Dalek and Chen discuss the fugitives' impending arrival, with Chen unsuccessfully advocating for their return to Earth for trial, as the Black Dalek insists on their immediate extermination after the core is retrieved.

Act 3

The Dalek pursuit ship, now irrevocably drawn by the magnetized beam, makes its landing on Kembel. Steven remains encased in a force field but is conscious and responsive. The Doctor prepares Steven to carry the glowing, fake taranium core, outlining his daring plan: use Steven as a decoy to exchange the counterfeit core with the Daleks and Mavic Chen. Crucially, the Doctor insists the exchange occur outside his own ship, the Tardis, ensuring a clear escape route. After a tense negotiation, the Black Dalek reluctantly concedes to the Doctor's terms. They make their way to the Tardis. At the designated spot, Steven offers the box containing the fake taranium to a delighted Chen, who snatches it, shielding his eyes against its fierce glow, convinced he has secured the real core of the Time Destructor. As the Daleks turn their weapons on Steven for immediate extermination, his protective force field miraculously deflects their rays, allowing him to dive into the Tardis just as its doors slam shut and it dematerializes. The Daleks and Chen are left with the useless replica, triumphantly unaware of the Doctor's successful deception, believing their universe-conquering invasion plans can now proceed unimpeded.
