Frontier in Space Part 2

When a spaceship accident lands two humans, Jo and the Doctor, on a mission fraught with intrigue, they must unravel a complex web of deception and conspiracy that threatens to ignite a war between Earth and Draconia.

In 'Frontier in Space - Episode Two', the Doctor and Jo, two unwitting travelers, find themselves at the center of an intergalactic crisis. Initially, they are mistaken for Draconian agents after stowing away on a cargo ship that was allegedly attacked by Draconians. However, the truth reveals a more sinister plot involving Ogrons, shape-shifting aliens used by a third party to provoke war between Earth and Draconia. As the Doctor and Jo navigate through Earth's security forces and Draconian diplomacy, they strive to expose the truth and prevent a catastrophic conflict. Along the way, they encounter various characters, including General Williams, who is determined to use them as evidence of Draconian aggression, and the Draconian Prince, who is equally convinced of Earth's hostile intentions. The episode builds towards a climax as the Doctor and Jo face numerous challenges, including escape from captivity, a shootout between Earth guards and Draconian agents, and the ultimate revelation of a deeper conspiracy that threatens the fragile peace between the two planets.

Act 1

Doctor and Jo find themselves imprisoned aboard a spaceship, accused by Earth security personnel, including Gardiner, of being Draconian agents. They attempt to explain their accidental presence and the true nature of the attack by Ogrons, but their pleas fall on deaf ears. Locked in a cargo hold, then a small room, they strategize, realizing the crew's memories are tampered with, making their story unbelievable. The Doctor emphasizes the need to find an uncompromised authority figure upon reaching Earth. General Williams, a high-ranking security official, anticipates their arrival, convinced they are Draconian spies. He plans a direct interrogation, reporting only to the President. Upon landing, Williams confronts the Doctor and Jo, dismissing their account as 'obvious nonsense' and asserting Draconian preparation for war. He theorizes they are human agents planted for espionage. The President, initially seeking proof, agrees to a confrontation with the Draconian Ambassador. In a holding cell, Gardiner advises the pair to confess to avoid a mind probe, a threat the Doctor downplays with a whimsical story. Later, the Doctor and Jo are brought before the President, General Williams, and the Draconian Prince. Stewart and Hardy, the cargo ship crew, corroborate the Draconian attack narrative. The Prince dismisses their testimony as orchestrated lies. Williams accuses the Doctor and Jo of being Draconian agents who transmitted signals for the attack. The Doctor vehemently denies the accusation, asserting a 'third party' seeks to provoke war between Earth and Draconia, but Williams labels his explanation as 'totally closed-minded.' The President briefly considers the Doctor's theory but Williams quickly dismisses it as 'nonsensical.' The Doctor and Jo are returned to their cell, where the Doctor attempts to bypass the electronic lock with his sonic screwdriver, inadvertently triggering an alarm and solidifying their status as troublesome prisoners.

Act 2

After their re-imprisonment, the Draconian Ambassador's office reveals the Prince's growing suspicion of Earth's motives. His aide subtly suggests the possibility of the Earthmen's truthfulness, or the strategic advantage of 'escaping prisoners' seeking sanctuary, planting a seed of doubt and a potential path for the Doctor. Concurrently, the President's office receives a request from the Draconian First Secretary to jointly question the Doctor and Jo, an agreement that sets the stage for a critical confrontation. As Earth guards escort the Doctor and Jo to this meeting, a sudden, violent shootout erupts on a security building walkway. An unseen assailant fires, a guard falls, and Draconian agents emerge from concealment, seizing the Doctor. Jo escapes the immediate melee but Earth guards quickly recapture her, leaving her distraught and isolated. The incident fuels General Williams' conviction, prompting him to demand the immediate withdrawal of the Draconian embassy, viewing the attack as a brazen rescue attempt. The President, however, prioritizes maintaining diplomatic relations and orders a complete security blackout on the event. She then interrogates Jo, pressing her for a confession about her supposed Draconian affiliations, offering leniency while Williams advocates for 'depth interrogation techniques' (a mind probe). Simultaneously, the Doctor faces interrogation in the Draconian Embassy. The Prince and his aide accuse him of being an Earth agent, specifically working for General Williams, whom they believe is orchestrating a new war. The Doctor vehemently denies these claims, reiterating his theory of Ogrons and a 'third party' manipulating both empires. The Draconians, equally convinced of his deception, threaten him with their own mind-probing techniques. In a desperate move, the Doctor physically overwhelms his guards and escapes the embassy, leading a chase through Fitzroy Park. His brief freedom ends abruptly as he finds himself surrounded by Earth guards on the lawn, caught once again between the two warring factions.
