The Armageddon Factor Part 1

As a nuclear war ravages the twin planets of Atrios and Zeos, Princess Astra and Doctor Who must navigate the chaos to prevent destruction and uncover a hidden threat.

In a futuristic setting, the planet Atrios is embroiled in a devastating war with its twin planet, Zeos. Princess Astra, amidst the chaos, begins to question the motives of her leadership, particularly Marshal, who seems more interested in winning the war than negotiating peace. Meanwhile, the Doctor and Romana arrive on Atrios in the TARDIS, only to find that their navigation systems have malfunctioned, putting them in the midst of the conflict. As they try to locate the sixth segment of the Key to Time, they become entangled in Astra's plight and the sinister plans of the Marshal. Astra's attempts to broker peace are met with resistance, and she finds herself captured and trapped. The Doctor and Romana must use their wits to rescue Astra, thwart the Marshal's deadly plans, and uncover the truth behind the war and the mysterious device disrupting navigation.

Act 1

The narrative opens on Atrios, a planet ravaged by nuclear war with its twin, Zeos. A patriotic propaganda broadcast contrasts sharply with the grim reality of a squalid hospital bunker under constant attack. Marshal, the Atrian leader, displays ruthless determination to win the war, dismissing any talk of peace. Princess Astra, however, openly challenges his militaristic stance, advocating for negotiation amidst the destruction. Her concern for the hospital, recently hit, is met with the Marshal's cold pragmatism. Meanwhile, the Doctor and Romana arrive in the TARDIS, their navigation systems disrupted, finding themselves in orbit above Atrios amidst the chaos. They quickly deduce a massive nuclear conflict is underway and suspect the Black Guardian's involvement, linking it to their quest for the Key to Time. The Marshal, detecting the TARDIS as an unknown 'Zeon device,' orders it tracked and destroyed, while simultaneously expressing growing suspicion and hostility towards Astra, seeing her as a liability. Astra, attempting to visit a children's ward, is deliberately led by her guard, under Marshal's orders, into the highly radioactive K-block and trapped, a clear act of betrayal. The Doctor, anticipating an attack, dematerializes the TARDIS at the last moment, making the Marshal believe his missile strike was successful. The TARDIS then materializes in a damaged underground corridor near K-block, where the Doctor and Romana discover the recently deceased guard who trapped Astra, realizing the immediate danger and the sinister nature of their surroundings.

Act 2

Following their landing, the Doctor and Romana investigate the lead-shielded K-block door, where K9 burns a small hole, revealing Princess Astra trapped inside. Before they can act, the Marshal appears, having killed Astra's guard, and immediately captures the Doctor and Romana at gunpoint. He accuses them of being Zeon spies, murdering his guard, and abducting Astra. Surgeon Merak, Astra's pacifist ally, is then brought in and similarly implicated in a conspiracy with the 'spies' and the Princess. The Doctor attempts to deflect the Marshal's accusations with absurd, unconvincing stories about tourism and searching for a 'key,' while Romana tries to maintain a more direct denial. The interrogation escalates, with the Marshal threatening immediate execution unless Astra's whereabouts are divulged. Just as the situation reaches its peak, K9, having tracked the Doctor's dog whistle, bursts into the control area, creating a diversion by shooting out the lights. In the ensuing chaos, the Doctor and Romana make their escape, fleeing back towards the TARDIS. Simultaneously, a mysterious figure, clad in black and wearing a mask, silently enters K-block, drags the feverish Princess Astra into a hidden alcove, and vanishes with her as the wall slides shut, leaving her fate unknown and adding a new layer of mystery to the unfolding conflict.
